Dumb Question: Fence Panels on Roof Rack

Has anyone carried fence panels on top of their Suburban/Yukon XL? I'm looking into picking up 2x 6x 10 and 2x 6x6 foot panels, and wonder if I can transport them via the luggage rack.

Anyone have experience with this?

You would be better off in the long run to borrow or rent a truck for this project.
Damage to the roof is a definite possibility. And she won't let you ever forget it.

Pretty much anything you can tie down up there you can haul. Tying it down right is the key. Don’t want it flying off and killing somebody in a car behind you.

Dimensionally, they'd fit. Is it ornamental iron, aluminum or wood? 32 feet of 6' iron or wooden fencing is a lot of weight to be on the roof. Even if it supports it, your car will be dangerously top heavy. I wouldn't do it.

Would they deliver? If not and this is your only option make 2 trips or at least put something soft on the rails under the fencing and tie down correctly

It's chain link. I'd obviously prefer to not damage my vehicle, but safely moving stuff is my main concern. And, no -- neither delivery nor multiple trips is an option.

That’s probably the lightest weight so put some movers blankets and other soft stuff strap it well and stop to check it after a few miles.

Thanks. I ended up renting a trailer. The panels were 10' x 8'.
