Holy cow, I’ve had Suburban’s (3) 2 Tahoe’s and 1 expedition. I sold gasoline for 30 years. Never I have I used any additional fuel additives, always running regular unleaded. Never have I had any engine problems. Regardless where you buy your gas, they must (by law) contain a m8nimum additive package. I will say, premium gives a touch better fuel economy, but not enough to justify 30-40c/gal price. E-85 cuts the range by 25% (400 miles to 300 miles per tank) so if it’s 25% cheaper, then use it, but I don’t like the loss in range

I think we need to classify these additives into different arbitrary groups.

First, the snake oils: This is stuff thats <$5 and available at your local auto zone. One that comes to mind is the GUNK engine cleanse. This is just pure diesel. You can smell it. It's just a pint of diesel to act as a solvent in your motor! So, unfortunately, MMO/marvel mystery old is part of this at $3.99. I use a bottle of it on every oil change, but do I KNOW it does something? No.

Second, the major industrial products: I reference the Kano/Kreen in this group. I ran this stuff as recommended in the oil and in the gas, and I didn't notice much change. Now, this isn't necessarily a problem with the product, I think I had just used enough other stuff prior to it, that it didnt have much to do.

Third, thickeners: Lookin at you lucas. This stuff fills the gaps, increases oil pressure (i guess) and does it really do anything for the longevity of a motor???

Anyhow I made a thread up here and posted what I've done thus far on my noisy burb:
https://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/threads/engine-noise-progress-with-videos.110089/

In short, I ran a quart of ATF for a few thousand miles, and it cleared things up quite nicely. I did MMO and the Kreen AFTER that period.......so had I done that FIRST, would my results have varied?? Not sure. I think Kreen is a bonafide product...I wish I had done that first, but I was expecting instant gratification from the ATF (because I'm clueless) and so I ordered the kreen while that was in the crank.

That ATF probably just screwed up your cat... no offense, but who acid run ATF.? What an idiot

Went ahead and looked at the oil additive

Flash point of 142f, pour point of -5f, and a 100c viscosity of 27.5 centistokes? What in the world is this stuff? It'll evaporate when the engine gets halfway hot, form a brick on a cold morning, and is as thick as a 140 weight gear oil.

I can't even say it would change the VII of an oil cause it would evaporate off. Which, if it does, whatever's left behind would be thicker - best case, or a particulate, worst case. At least in the former, it would tank the VII of an oil.

It's mineral oil and lube oil.

Here's the older version.

Wow, you sold gas for 30 years? Good for you there quick stop boy. Dont be a dick, you're welcome to do to you truck whatever you feel like - but dont act like a damn 3rd grader because you have a differing opinion. Unless you're a ******* chemist, I'll treat your opinion like the 2 cents it's worth. And let's not even mention your broken engrish.

What is up lately with the forum? I have seen a couple threads go "RAMBO" for the first time since i have joined. Is it possible that all our vehicles are running for the most part and we have to much time on our hands? Is it the heat/humidity? I am a mech and work with a highly skilled crew, when we are buried in broken helo's we are a finley tuned crew. But give us a day to sit around the shop and we will be at each others throats within a few hours! we need a few "just joined" first posts of grenaded drivetrains to get us back on track!

I apologize for my outburst, however I'm not going to standby being called an idiot by some newbie trying to swing his non existent dick around. No reason to call me an idiot, I did him no wrong so I stand by my response.

I toss in a couple bottles of injector cleaner every 2-3 tank fulls of gas, don't know if it makes any difference or not, but truck runs great, as for the rest of the snake oil fix's out there I would suffice to say 90% of them don't do diddly squat and your wasting your money for a maybe temporary fix for whatever is going wrong. next time you are at the store flip those bottles of snake oil around and look at the contents then compare the $3 crap to the $30 crap contents.
