Just came across this thread as I had the same question. We bought a ‘08 Denali in Indiana that had a 70% tint on the front windows and she got pulled over by a Iowa State Patrol and got a fix-it ticket. At the same time, I see guys rolling around with just as much, if not more tint, as my wife.

Yeah, I've received my fair share of front windshield tickets. My windshield is done on 4 of my vehicles and I've sold 3 that had it also. I got a "stern warning" in the north Seattle area but no ticket. A warning and about half a dozen tickets in Florida. I just pay the fine and move on. It would cost me more to remove the tint then re-apply so the fine is an option. Every once in a while you'll get an office / trooper that wants to teach a lesson, level of authority or whatever and he'll give you a ticket for each window. That has happened 3 times. Twice I paid the fine that was upwards of 300.00.

The last and latest about a year ago in the Platimum I got thrown out due to the overzealous peace officer evidently recording the incorrect tag number.

Doesn't matter, as hot as it gets here in Florida and in Louisiana, it's well worth it to me.

You fellas ought to have your eyes checked. The doctor can sign a form so the government will allow you to run dark tint on your windows to protect your eyes. Juan, are you in Tallahassee by chance?

I am not being a smart a** or anything, but if you have bad eyes, they make all sorts of sunglasses. I am not a fan of tinted windshields because you are messing with the main area you're supposed to be looking out of! At night, how are you supposed to see a sudden danger when you can't see through it? When I used to work at the dealer, I hated dealing with vehicles with tinted windshields, the shop wasn't that bright to begin with, and getting them into my bay sucked because I couldn't see through them. It's like putting a bandana over your eyes and expecting to drive safely. Sorry if this offends anyone, but a windshield is meant to seen through, it's not supposed to be sporty, it's function is for the driver to see through unobstructed.

I have 70% (essentially clear) ceramic film on the windshield of the Burb with an 8" 5% strip at the top.

If it weren't for the strip at the top you would never know the windshield had tint on it.

I question whether the film on @wjburken 's windshield was actually 70%... seems more likely that it may have been 50% or darker for the police to even be able to tell. Just my opinion.

Our windshield did not have any tint. It was the front door windows and it was blocking 70%.

I personally hated the tint and just hadn’t gotten around to removing it because made it hard to see things at night.

i've had a couple, one was because the cop was being sort of nice and opted to ticket me for tinted windows instead of a moving violation (so they still got paid), the 2nd one was a hp and he was being a turd and got me for speeding then decided to get me for the windows as well for nor reason other than to be a dick I guess, both times I just paid the fine and carried on works out to the same price basically removing and re-tinting unless you do it yourself in which case I am like a kid with color crayons lol I have no tinting skills

Not trying to harass you but if its blocking 70% then it would be a 30% (allowable light transmission) film... I know in Florida 35% film is legal on the front side windows.

Sorry I misunderstood your post... I assumed, since this was a thread about windshield tint, that you were referring to tint on the windshield, not the side doors.

Carry on... lol

No harassment felt. I am not a tint expert by any stretch of the imagination. All I know is that the ticket my wife got said 70% blocked and in Iowa, pretty much anything darker than factory is illegal. I have now received some education in the field of window tinting.
