Dealer has had my '15 Denali for 3 months. What should I do?

The issue is the warranty. If the gasket is an aftermarket gasket, GM will not pay for the repair and there is no more warranty on the repair. If I'm giving up my warranty, it isn't going to be over using an aftermarket head gasket on a stock engine.

I've never been held hostage over a warranty. If I want to do something to my motor, I do it. Chances are he'll never have a problem with the engine again and if he did, they will never detect the use of the same gasket made by Fel-Pro that they get in an ACDelco wrapper. Being this a massive country of 300 million souls, someone, somewhere has those gaskets in their ACDelco wrapper sitting on a shelf collecting dust. Those L86s have been around long enough.

Me either but the grand majority of people want the warranty when they’re spending $60k+ on a vehicle. They can absolutely figure out the gasket is different if they call for the parts. Gaskets are date coded also and have to correspond correctly as well.

Ah, I guess the lawyer will build the factory to make the head gasket!!

I’m not trying to make light of your situation because it does suck. This place is full of great (not) advice from the conspiracy theorists that will only get you more stressed out and won’t help. Unless you want to try and get the truck bought back, contacting the BBB, a lawyer, Trump, whoever will not magically produce a part that is on backorder. It’s all a waiting game at this point. I had to wait months for a transmission to be manufactured for my Cobalt SS years ago that was backordered. There is a process that takes time when a part goes on backorder, which could be caused by all kinds of reasons that can’t be foreseen.
That could all be true and still should not be the OP's problem.

It's unacceptable that an item such as a head gasket would be out of production and unavailable for a vehicle four model years old with hundreds of thousands of units on the road. No, there's no magic dust for the dealer or GM to sprinkle and to grow a new head gasket. On the other hand, everyone is shrugging their shoulders and leaving the OP without a vehicle.

GM should be covering the cost of a loaner car.

I don’t see the issue with the gasket either. When gm does a complete brake job, they don’t use gm rotors.

well Rene just checked and just told you there are some in stock at other dealers, nobody at gm knows how to transfer stock from one dealer to another?

You're right, it is totally unacceptable but totally unacceptable happens every day in every field of business so here we are. You really have to understand how logistics works these days. These parts are designed and manufactured all over the world and get shipped here, there, and everywhere. If GM looses a supplier, which is likely what happened, it takes time to make the deal, get manufacturing started, get parts shipped to warehouses, inventoried, and orders fulfilled. It's never intended to run out of parts. The 5th generation Camaro's release was delayed a few months because GM lost their supplier for some of the interior parts.

Uhh, yes they do.

A few dealers do have the gasket but generally when a hot item like this is backordered, the dealers who have them have them "ordered for a customer" and won't let them go.

Actually, you're right. We don't know what the dealer, or GM, has done for the OP other than not fix his car. That's a good clarification and would be nice info to have.

I have a loaner. It'a SLE Acadia.

I have other cars and thankfully the weather along with my travel schedule have allowed me to enjoy them. Our holiday trips have been less comfortable and more cramped but I try not to be a baby about the loaner. However, with tailgating season starting and the weather due to change any week I am growing less fond of the prospect of going with my Yukon.
