Driving this afternoon, outside temperature was 101. Within 10 miles of combined hwy/twn, 15 minutes or so, the transmission fluid temperature showed 165 degrees.

I am going to pull a 4000lb trailer across Colorado, Utah and Nevada in about a month. It seems like I should probably add a transmission fluid cooler before going, since it gets that hot in flat Kansas without towing.

I had everything checked over by my mechanic last week and he didn't mention it. Do I need to be concerned? Thoughts and recommendations are appreciated.

165 is good, that's what I get now in the summer beating on it after installing a b&m deep trans pan and a truecool 40k, before that mine would be 200 or over all the time.

I keep mine in a pretty narrow band between about 115 and 130.

Have trucool 40k, kept radiator pass through, and have manual lo/hi toggle switch for efans

Only really need to turn fans on in traffic though. The trucool does a good job of keeping Temps in the 120 to 125 range under suburban type driving

180-190 to 200 is where the fluid works best. if you get to 220 + thats a unhappy tranny.
