how did the get the glass open without breaking it?

They used a screwdriver and pried up the latch.

I now have screw driver pry marks on the back of my liftgate now

Man if i knew the alarm didn't sound when entering the vehicle then i would've been taken care of that a long time ago. That's my main concern for now is how easily accessible the vehicle is at the glass hatch. I may have to figure out and wire a separate alarm for the hatch. I could've had something important in the vehicle. I'm glad i didn't. I may sell this vehicle off and get an 2015. This really opened my eyes today on this defect

If you have an aftermarket alarm, you can add an IR sensor. It will detect movement in your vehicle after the alarm has been set. You can adjust the sensitivity—it will work if you were to leave your windows down as well, or a sunroof open.

What year is your Esky? I think the glass and interior motion sensor and tow sensors were added in sometime in 2010-2012 along with different glass and a locking steering column.
Sure hope the police bring them to justice.
Did I read right that you attempted to meet with the thief? He probably spotted you first doing counter-surveillance and took off.

Yea, there was a huge news segment about thieves stealing seats a few years ago.
