Hello

New guy here, just bought a 08 Black Tahoe Ltz. Replaced my 238xxx mile 2000 Silverado. I literally keep my vehicles till it’s not worth it anymore. So far it’s been almost 3 weeks and I love it. Although since then the front passenger coil over assembly has been replaced. And I have a ridiculous knock which I think is the body mount at the drivers front fender. And I noticed now that the right wheel bearing is buzzing.

I discovered this place after searching for solutions to the knocking and figure I should join. Been awhile since i have been part of a forum.

I used to work at a Chevy dealership back until 2011. So I have driven these when they were new but now they have aged since then I’m trying to study on what I need to look out for and take care of on these vehicles.

Welcome Evan. How many miles on her and which engine? The front hubs have an average lifespan of about 110K miles and most folks replace them with Timkens which are an OE supplier. Have a Tech-2? Going to need one to work on it and diagnose things with electricity flowing through them. They're nowhere near as expensive as they used to be.

156xxx miles. I’ve replaced my silverado with timken before myself. And no tech 2. The knock is more of a thud I should say. It’s the body mount. If I turn right and such I can feel it right where that mount is under the driver floorboard. From the info if seen around the internet is telling me the body mounts have had issues.

At that mileage, another thing to watch for is the oil pan pickup tube o-ring. When it starts to go you'll notice your oil pressure fluctuate and drop and if you add a couple extra quarts to the motor and let it idle and the pressure returns to normal, you know for sure that's the culprit. How's the transmission fluid look? Is she 2WD or a 4x4? 5.3 or one of the rare 6.2s?

Welcome, any pics? We’re a little slow and love pics here;)
First I’ve heard of body mounts, are the gaps on the door/fender messed up? Not saying i know everything or am even a mechanic but I don’t think ive ever heard anyone have issues with body mounts but maybe im wrong.
If you your hub is bad i think your thud is the hub, maybe its further gone than you think?
Also, check the sway bar link on that side, on mine i used to hear a thud on every left turn and and then it was gone one day, that was the day the sway bar link broke and my truck became a boat.
My drivers hub was going bad also so i did both sides with Timkens, easy peasy but you know how that goes.
Good luck with it.

Welcome from south Louisiana and from another '08 owner. I bought mine three years ago with 147K and have had virtually no issues with it. I'd never guess these things would have body mount problems but maybe they do in the rusty regions?
