The upper part of the housings on my mirrors have holes in them from police use. I want to replace them or do something with them.

How are these removed? I can't seem to find a way.

The front is made up of two halves- the lower textured black plastic and the upper cap that is either textured black as well or smooth and painted or chrome. Where the lower half meets the hinge, on top, press down to unhook it and pull it away. This is the mirror shell's "Achilles heel". You should be able to work the rest of it loose from there. The lower half and cap will come off the mirror together as one unit. Once off, you'll see on the inside where and how the cap is snapped onto the lower half. With a medium flat-blade screwdriver, pry the tabs (GENTLY! They're brittle) to unhook them. I think I started with the long locking one(s) on the far end(s). Reassembly and reinstallation is the reverse of removal.

I saw a YouTube video (1A Auto?) where a guy separated the cap from the lower half by pressing and prying. That way is much more difficult and you're likely to break every tab. I recently disassembled my mirrors and my friend's mirrors when trading him my chrome caps for his plain ones. Once I figured out removing the whole front together, I didn't break any tabs.
