Replacing the PS pump on my 99 Yukon...

So, use GM fluid, others have success with regular PS fluid........... Not ATF though...

My replacement pump is dripping with ATF....

should I try to flush it all out before installing? If there is ATF residue in there and I add PS fluid, will that be an issue?

Im sure this has been hashed out 10000000000 times but I couldnt find any threads.

GM Fluid, PS Fluid, even ATF I have read all three being used elsewhere, many swear by each and others say that each one was no good.

Im just going to get the GM fluid and see how it goes.
But should I try to flush out that ATF or not bother?

Only reason ive ever used trans fluid in a pump was because it had a leak, stuff was cheaper and thicker than ps fluid. This was in a beater 78 cutlass. Pump it out, replace with reg old ps fluid.. doesn’t have to be gm stuff and doesn’t have to be completely flushed. If you feel better fill with ps fluid, dump it 1 or 2x then fill and done.

A little ATF won't hurt your pump. I've used it several times over the years and never had a pump fail on me.
