So I just bought my 16 Denali xl about a month ago. As I was pulling off the lot, realized the right taillight wasn’t working. I told the dealership immediately but was on my 4 hour drive back home and their service and parts was closed anyways. They had me go to my local dealership to get a diagnostics on it. At one point after I got it home, both lights weren’t working, then another time both were working and now back to only left working. Well, the diagnosis was that both need to be replaced.

The dealership I bought it from has been great, gave my dealership a CC number and said run it. But now they have no idea when they will be able t get one. Parts has no eta. Only the right taillight is on back order. They have a left In stock but are waiting until they get the other in to replace them at the same time.

1- I had researched about those lights going out but it’s because a metal fuse type thing on the led strips commonly burn out and a relatively easy fix and there are companies that fix them for around 125. But if my lights have been coming on randomly, Is that the same issue?

2- it’s been 2 weeks now on backorder with no update. Anyone else in the same boat?

The dealer said something about giving me some paperwork showing it’s on backorder but I don’t drive this very much so I wasn’t too concerned with that. But thinking about the cops side of it, doesn’t matter what the situation is, I’m technically breaking the law. It’s at their discretion but at least a warning. If I’m not mistaken though, if you get a ticket for an out taillight, if you show proof that you’ve fixed it then they trash the ticket. Unless something has changed.

there is no inventory available, so it is on a back order. i would suggest to tell your dealer to submit a '**** CASE' for your lamp. which means if there are dealers that have it in stock a dealer can sell them the lamp and they resell to you for the same price.

just don't tell them that i said what i said, lol.

OP - No matter when the tail light you need becomes in-stock or available for replacement are you going to be out the cost of the tail light and labor to swap in a working one? Hence why you provided the dealership your credit card #? Or is it being covered under warranty? If not it’s about $720 parts and labor per tail light.

as far as the cops go in pa it is up to the cops discretion showing your waiting for parts. on the same note i still believe its thier discretion if they toss the ticket or not.

when i bought my other car my dealership covered the main cost of my extended warranty and i opted to kick in more for the bigger warranty. honestly extended warrantys are more like insurance than warrantys. but 100 dollar deductible on mine and anything covered is fixed.

It’s the dealership that I bought the truck froms credit card. They are paying for the replacement of both taillights. Just have to wait for a right taillight to become available.

So I just talked to my service advisor. He said parts said they submitted a “**** case” but I dont know this service advisor well. I used to work at this dealership so I will verify with my parts guy when he gets back from vacation but I know my parts guys would have got one if they could have.
