Hey folks. Just recently picked up a ‘15 black LTZ with 2” front level and am getting ready to upgrade to some 22” TBSS replica wheels. I’ve picked out the 285/45/22 defender LTX as my tire choice but really struggling with whether satin or gloss will be the best pick for the wheels. I’ve never owned black wheels and I am having a hard time finding descent pictures comparing the two on a black body so figured I’d ask the group on opinions both aesthetically and maintenance wise which one may be the better choice.

Below is a picture of the new ride if it helps. Was thinking about going with chrome lug nuts to accent the wheels since the LTZ has so much chrome on it already.

Thanks in advance!

Gloss imo. Gloss gets a little dirty looks like satin. Satin gets a little dirty looks flat.

I concur with Mama Steven. If it was more of an off-road rig with more lift and aggressive tires, then I'd say satin. Even then that style of wheel would be a little out of place. Keep it classy with the gloss.

Satin works great for me, they don’t ever look too dirty. Gloss looks dirty as soon as you clean it, just like black trucks do. But since your truck is gloss black, might as well let it all look the same amount of dirty lol.

Thanks guys, I appreciate everyone’s input. I do have the same concerns that satin may look a little dull or even greyish against the gloss black paint. Heck, maybe the contrast would look good though.

My hesitation with the gloss is mostly that if I had a red Tahoe I wouldn't put red glossy wheels on it, just never a look I was into to but to each their own. Seems like black on black is a bit different though and could look good.

Anyone have pics of satin or gloss black wheels on a black rig?

(I have searched and found a few pics scattered across the web and this forum but very few of black on the new body style)

Look at the new RST in black. I think they all come with gloss black 22” wheels.

Just following up in case anyone else runs across this thread during a similar search.
I rolled the dice on satin and....blah. You all were right. I love the style of the wheel and the satin looked nice in the bay of the tire shop but as soon as I got it out in the sunlight the satin (which honestly looks like a flat/matte vs a true satin) just looked really dull compared to the glossiness of the Tahoe...almost has a charcoal grey color to it. Just doesn’t look right on such a “lux” style ride.

Fortunately the place I got them is really cool about it and are going to swap them out for the gloss version. I’m pretty excited about it and think it will look a lot better.

Ill have them on mid next week and I’ve already taken pictures with the satin so I’ll be able to post some comparison pics in case it helps anyone in the future

OK so here’s a comparison pictures between the satin (really flat/matte) and gloss. Some may prefer the look of the satin but personally I am really happy with how the gloss turned out and think it’s a much better match for the vehicle.

Overall I am very happy with how it looks and it rides oh so smooth on the defender tires.

Gloss (Shadow is casting on the wheels so I’ll try to repost when I can get a pic facing sun)

Gloss black on a black truck looks way better IMO. But also, those satin ones don’t look like my satin ones, they’re more flat like you said. Here's mine for comparison. Where did you buy the wheels and what brand are they?
