Just had the rear door speaker out to fix the power window assembly, and found out that the rear door speaker are 8ohm. That’s weird. How come I have 4ohm upfront, and 8ohm in the rear door? Are they’re supposed to be same ohm?

So , would it sound bad if I put 4ohm speaker on 8ohm ? Because crutchfield doesn’t have an 8ohm speakers for rear door on 02 Yukon XL.

I'm not the one to truly explain it, but I was told the 4 ohms are due to the amount total watts / amps , supporting the speakers on the specific channel. Rear is only 2 speakers? ( Something like that)

My XL SLT Bose system was not overly used during the life of the 2005. ( retired couple owned the truck)..

I wonder of the Fosgates sound better than the 'good condition' Bose in the truck?
All it takes is one ******* "mechanic" to crank it up once.

you could put a 4ohm replacement in, if you are not changing the factory headunit/amp you will want to stick the same speaker design, even still it may turn out sounding kind of tinny (like a tin can speaker), if you put some different kind of speaker in with the factory system it changes the sound usually for the worse unless you change it all together, like it was mentioned before the factory amp is pathetically low powered so when you put in speakers deigned for 40w or 80w or whatever and the factory amp is only putting out 6 watts it generally doesn't sound well at all.

If you have a repair manual, you can see how its wired up.

My guess would be that they have the two rears wired in parallel which would make a 4 ohm load on the circuit. This would mean the two rear speakers would be wired in mono and not stereo, but not sure if that would even be noticed back there. The purpose would be to save a little, (weight and cost from more wire,) from an easier way of wiring it up.

Looks like you are trying to do all this on a factory head unit. IMO I wouldn't bother with it. I would either leave them if they aren't distorted, or if they are just disconnect them. I'm basing this off the assumption that the rear two speakers are wired in as a single channel in parallel. That would mean even if you wanted to, you couldn't run new wire to split the rears into two channels, (because it wouldn't be an option). At this point, you would really need to upgrade your head unit to have separate channels to run 4 ohm speakers, which is what most people do by now.

IF... I am right about it being wired in parallel, then you could replace them with 2 ohm speakers (if you can find the right size), and you can just wire them in parallel. (positive at head unit/amp to positive of speaker 1... speaker 1 neg to speaker 2 pos.... speaker 2 pos to head unit/amp neg....) You would need to see if the head unit or amp if you have one can handle a 2 ohm load, or you could burn it out. Its also going to increase your power. I'm not searching to see if others have tried this or if i'm wrong.
