I have a cylinder 6 DOD failure. Money aside, i am trying to determine if I should just fix the issue at hand (pending cam condition inspection of lifter) or do a full delete with mild cam and tune and exhaust. Thoughts? Successes. Failures. Who did you use? How long ago?

deleted it 5k miles after dealership replaced engine under warranty.
used texas speed cam, ws6store for some of the parts, and mostly just oem.
over 40k miles on it so far very little problems (aside from self inflicted)

Mine didn’t wipe the cam—the lifter rotated in the lifter bucket and stayed up off the cam. I swapped in the new updated lifters and a Range module to disable AFM.

yep, i wanted to get it done before i put to many miles on it and would feel iffy about reusing some of the parts - so my list will be considerably shorter than what id feel comfortable reusing out of a 100k+ mile engine.
changed the 8 afm lifters out for oem "ls7" lifters, i used the ls9 7 layer head gaskets.
Id consider mine a mild cam, could have definitely gone larger but cost was already *********** at that point.

doing a cam, you need a tune period so close to stock or mild doesnt matter.
valve springs again close to stock lift or not, i wouldnt risk throwing in any higher of a lift cam with doing springs. "cheap" springs are 80bux for gm ls6 blues good for most .550 cams, $200ish is about what i spent on some pac beehives (still single coil "oem replacement" and are good up to .625 lift), doubles i think tsp or btr have a nice set for 260ish with everything needed good to over .650 lift . what im getting at is i wouldnt restrict myself to using a nearly stock cam only because i didnt want to spend another $100 on springs.
pushrods - cheap, hardened under 100bux "house brand" jegs/summit/tsp/btr all carry something that will work

My cam is 218/228 113lsa iirc with .600 lift on intake and exhaust, deletes DOD, retained VVT. It is probably slightly larger then id want to use without changing the stall converter (my stock 6.2 would flash about 1800rpm)

the dod delete kits do a pretty good job of compiling the parts, misc gaskets for front cover/front crank seal/waterpump/etc

@01FormulaTA has a little bit smaller cam, vids still looks like is hauls ass nicely he may have gotten it done a little cheaper than i

I am assuming this isn't the 05 Denali in your sig as they don't have DOD....but if it were me I would figure out if I was keeping the vehicle a long time or if I think I would be selling it anytime within the next year or 2. If you plan to keep it a long time then I would def recommend you delete the DOD. You don't even have to get an aftermarket cam if you don't want. You could go with a factory L9H cam which I believe is something like 198/209 .500/.500. For reference I have a Cam Motion 206/216 .553/.553 3 bolt cam (no VVT) which works with the LS6 Springs and it works perfect with the stock converter, my mileage didn't change much, and it makes a great daily driver cam. You can use some new OE head gaskets and LS7 Lifters, and if you don't want to get new valve springs keep the lift at .500/.500 or less, .550/.550 or less for LS6 Springs.

Really there is no reason to keep the DOD unless you plan on selling anytime soon.

No it’s a 2010. Leaning towards Texas speed DOD delete cam tune.

I'm with Chris- there's no reason to keep it. It failed you once and it's not worth giving it a second chance, upgraded parts or not. If you have to go into the motor that far, take the one-and-done approach and eliminate it from ever being a factor again. You won't miss it at all.

Ordered the cam and delete from Texas. Using black bear after. Then figuring out some exhaust for now, likely just the baffle or extra dumbass muffler behind rear axle removed. For now.
