Front Dash Crack

I have a 2012 Denali with the cracked dash issue. I was looking at one of these:

There are a couple of you tube videos of these. They look better than the cracks. Anybody try one?

I shopped for over a month for my 2010 Tahoe LT1 that I just purchased yesterday. It was the only one that I saw out of 5 that i checked into that did not have a crack(2007-2012 models that i saw). Most have it on both sides of the dash. Its a matter of time for mine i am sure before it happens. That tells me that they are poorly designed.

I got one of those $30 carpet dash covers. Does it look better than the cracks? Debatable (though I'd say no). But when I tell everyone I have Premium Pimp **** on my dashboard they look at it differently.

My 2011 didn't have a crack, but the center clip receptacle just in front of the center speaker was broke so it wasn't supported there by the vent cover that runs along the windshield and there was a gap and a lot of bounce/rattle in that area.

My 2012 has the thin crack at the upper left corner of the airbag, but the rest of the dash is solid and rattle/bounce free

Mind messaging me a pic of where that clip is? Mine rattles a bit and sags just a bit in the center.

I cut a piece of Styrofoam and put it under my center speaker to support it and the dash, there is nothing under the speaker to keep it from being nothing but dead weight. there is about 4-5" off free space under the speaker. why some engineer didn't see that is beyond me

Engineer was probably overruled by the accountant.

Well my dash finally cracked at the air bag. I decided to try and salvage it. During the process getting it out another crack occurred at the center speaker. I fixed all cracks with the hot staple gun and jb weld plastic bonder. The center clip to hold the front dash has always been missing so I took some 1/16 aluminum and made a new clip. Used the jb weld to secure it. The hot staple helped hold the cracks together. Then roughed up plastic with 80 grit paper. I did find more cracks under the dash once I took it off so I repaired those areas too. I’m very surprised how brittle the plastic is over the years. I will keep this one until it gets worse then replace it. Anyhow here’s some pics.

Nice. How long did that take you? I'm tempted to replace mine...

Honestly if I were you I probably would have just tried to replace the whole dash if I was already pulling it all the way off like that. You're right about how brittle it is. I just lost my 2008 Tahoe to a drunk driver but it had developed four distinct cracks in the 6.5 years I had it. It gave me anxiety whenever anyone in the passenger seat touched the dash at all because of how fragile it was. i just bought a 2011 Z71 Tahoe and it looks like the previous owner actually installed a dash cover over the original so I'm sure there are cracks underneath it.

Your dash looks solid now though, so let's hope no new cracks develop.


PS My last Tahoe had the tan interior with wood grain just like yours and the new one is just a black interior. I miss the old one!
