My 07 Escalade ticked for the first few minutes. I was alwayes under the assumption it was piston slap.

Mine is a 6.2 and that ticking noise are your lifters. I got them all replaced by a local mechanic $4K

What year?

The newer 6.2 have direct injection. The injectors are much louder and the produce a "ticking" sound when they fire

Could also be lifters. Mine started ticking really loudly and I had to get the lifters replaced on a couple of cylinders. Cylinder deactivation strikes again.

It is similar to the corvette engine and it is the injectors, same noise as in the corvette. My corvette had "injector" noise with the stock injectors. Once we went forced induction (first supercharged, now twin turbo'd), who the hell could hear injectors over the forced induction and straight pipes (unmuffled but for the turbos)……….

If you are worried about lubrication and possible ticks as a result of low pressure, throw an oil pressure gauge on it. 200K miles wears things out.
