So I've seen this discussed before, but I think my situation may be a little different. Occasionally, as in maybe 1 out of every 10 trips, experience a stalling or jerking issue when leaving from a dead stop. My issue happens when the engine is still running and not in hybrid/ auto stop. I'll push the gas and it starts to go but then nothing, rpms do not increase, vehicle slowly moves forward, then it's just back to normal. At normal cruising speeds this is never a issue, only at dead stops. I see other talk about the aux fluid pump, and control module, but since this doesn't happen in auto stop I'd assume those devices shouldn't be the culprit? I already replaced the throttle body as I seen other people suggest this. Any ideas?

well for now turn off the auto stop by turning on the heater

it will shut off auto stop and shut off v4 mode..

what fuel do you use??

87 ,89 ,91,93???

Don't start replacing random parts.. take it to a shop that will use a code reader like a tech2
A real Shop genuine shop will not charge you for this ,at lest one that is not crooked ..

my normal shop they will run the code reader or tech2 for free at no charge we are good with the owner me and my dad take our cars there for repairs when needed...

Are you 100% sure the engine is still running? Just wondering if you are maybe catching it in transition and your hybrid battery maybe is a bit weak? I installed a new hybrid battery in my 09 about 6 weeks ago, it was doing that same semi-stall thing about 1 out of 10 with the old weak hybrid battery but that was out of autostop...................... Typically the ICE is off when stopped every time now that my new hybrid battery is installed. When it first started doing that semi-stall thing (months ago) I just figured it was part of the GM Hybrid two Mode normal drive ability characteristic, but after I got the codes I realized the battery was badly deteriorated. I ran some tests on my old battery before I sent it in as a core and it was below 25% of its original capacity and modules were badly unbalanced. 90% of the modules could not be reconditioned, they were just used up at 10 years old and +200k miles. I probably could have driven it for a lot longer with the old worn out battery but I wanted it to perform like new and I was tired of the unexpected hesitation at times (always seemed to occur when you needed the silly thing to move out of someones way LOL)

Heater on or off has no effect on autostop mode on my 09? What model is it that this works on?

turns off auto stop,v4 for me because it needs to run the water pump to circulate the Heat

mine is one of the first few that rolled off the assembly line

2008 Version 1.0 built in late 2007 or early 2008

so you have an electric water pump?? or maybe electric strip heating??

As I remember it had a standard looking belt driven water pump? Might just be a controls thing that they changed, I am not sure.

it has the vacuum fluorescent display for the AC/heat controls dual zone version\\

Manual mode will turn off auto start

but the op can use tow mode tell has enough saved to buy a replacement pack.. enjoy 13mpg...

this should extend the pack tell it's replacement time.

REPLACE before you get codes..because you end up with a bunch of them (codes)

i'm all ready saving up for a new pack my self. might as well

This doesnt happen when I'm in hybrid mode. Has only ever happened with the ICE running only. Now, knowing how other hybrids work, is the hybrid system assisting the ICE from a stop? Is it possible the hybrid battery is weak when sitting awhile and that's causing the issue? Hybrid mode seems to function normally, and even though this winter has been cold and rough, when it has warmed up, I can sometimes go a few blocks on hybrid mode alone. No codes have popped up, only thing that ever happened that caused a code, was back in January I backed out of my driveway, and it completely stalled, and it said service power steering and popped 3 codes. But since then, zero codes or issues like that.

do you wait at lest 2-3 seconds for it to start? when shifting into reverse.. I wait 2-3 seconds for it to shift into reverse other wise it runs very rough if you try and back up right away ... this is a complicated transmission... in main stream car talk having gears and cvt was not heard of tell FEB 2018...

:hmmm2::yawn:
while toyota is 25 years behind barely getting the idea out there. LOL (it came out in 1995) it's just a miniaturized version that is used on the tahoes
https://global.toyota/en/mobility/tnga/powertrain2018/cvt/

We get to enjoy our 4 speed launch gear-CVT (aka EVT) that came out in 2008 :p

toyota is a bit late to the :signs1:

I know toyota claims to be the first

it's one of the reason why I back in to any parking space so i don't have to deal with this and able to "leave" right away... try waiting a few seconds when putting it in reverse.

it even says in the user manual it can be slow to shift from park to reverse or drive
when cold and is "considered normal".....

I did stall it on a cold start up (but fired up by it self again in park) but has not happened after switching to premium fuel . on a ice cold start. and

Auto stop "start up" much smoother most of the time I have to check if my engine is still running as it's very quiet ..

so quiet it's almost caused a few accidents... in parking lots ( other people don't notice it) as they are used to cars making noise etc...

one super close call with a prius with in a few inches..

he tried lieing and saying i hit him so he can get his broken car fixed for free...
then he tried pointing out old previously there scratches. it would have been impossible other wise the corner of my bumper would have tore his prius apart

foiled his scam after I said I had a camera he wanted out and just left after that... I was going to back into the space but someone was getting into their car etc.. he tried setting me up by waiting in his car for me to leave and to pretend to hit me that old guy was a total POS.. lier
