How would the computer recognize the extra 2 gears and different shift points? Agreed though if you want all new stuff go GM crate with a warranty.

Does the engine's computer do that? Or does it take a cue from the transmission's computer? I think such a swap might be more trouble than it's worth. I could see going to a 6L90 from a 6L80 but the 8-speed or 10-speed would be a whole lot more work and for what gain?

You've got the best set up going. Now if you don't want to rebuild, just get a new crate engine and transmission from GM. Then decide if you want to add horsepower and or just a good tune.
Best set up, so I read the lifters is always a problem in the 07s!

See if you’re racking up any codes to get a better insight to n what’s going on. An engine oil analysis might give insight. Does your chassis have the worth to gift a new drive train?

You’re at that pivotal point where you’re almost ready to start a build thread. Open your imagination up to blue sky on your end goals. Do you want more or updated interior accessories to enhance the driving experience, bulletproof reliability, economy or performance?

If done correctly, you can increase your resale for when you’re ready for to move on. Don’t throw $$ at the truck without a clear goal. For instance, if you want more, upgradable power and a way to get a payback, consider a swap from a diesel GM truck if the smog gods are friendly in your state.

If you want a bad ass comfortable ride similar to what you have find a totaled Caddie w/ the drive train u want and pull the interior to get a stealthy ride. Maybe you want some of the exterior bits off the donor too. Just say’n.
