Welcome!

Skip the cold air intake (CAI) and exhaust on these trucks unless you really dig the look and/or sound that they produce, as you won't see the performance gains that are common with those changes to other platforms.

Definitely get a tune from Black Bear Performance.

Plenty of other great info & advice on here if you search and/or ask.

Enjoy.

Welcome. Good advice already given above. Black Bear tune x 2 on both my trucks. Very noticeable and enjoyable difference in both. Maybe start there and see what you think in terms of performance/driving changes first, then move forward. Good luck.

Only problem I have with BB is it seems pretty expensive. Highly doubt I could do it with my broke high schooler budget. But I have heard nothing but good things from them so I might just try to save up the money for it. Big difference in power?

It is a bit pricey. But worth every penny! I saved up for about a year to get the tune and then also the autocal device.

How much was the setup you paid for? Will it also improve fuel economy while increasing power?

Skip hp tuners and go with @BlackBearPerf for a tune. But you won't need any tune for a simple cai.
Welcome and love the enthusiasm for future mods :boti:

I appreciate the advice and have seen many comments on the site praising BlackBearPerf. However, I'm still leaning towards HP Tuners.
Eventually, I will be attempting an LS swap, either in my Ranger or a yet to be purchased Mustang. It will use a power adder of some type. My line of thinking is if I purchased and became comfortable using HP Tuners now, on a mostly stock LS vehicle, down the line I will be more comfortable attempting to tune my next vehicle.

Being able to tune my own engine appeals to me as well. However, I went with BlackBear for now to reap the benefits of their expertise until I learn enough to start tinkering on my own. When that time comes, I'll then have to decide on HP Tuners or EFI Live.
