I'm getting some noise in my 2015 Tahoe when turning at relatively low speed. If the Tahoe had a power steering pump I would assume the fluid level was low but my understanding is that it's all electric now.

The main time is when I'm doing a 90* turn from one street to another, low speed, at the apex of the turn it starts to whine, seems to do it more turning right but I've noticed going left as well (warmer temps seem to be more noticeable but maybe it didn't start until after winter time). Tires are good, pressure is good and I can't think of anything else that could be causing the problem.

Any ideas about causes or fixes would be greatly appreciated. 2015 Tahoe, with about 60K miles, if we think it's drivetrain I'm still covered under factory warranty, if not I'll have to pay for the dealer to diagnose the issue. In most cases I know you guys are much better than the dealership at knowing what's going on.

Thanks.

My 2009 started having a noise when turning the wheel at first it sounds like maybe the oversized tires were slightly rubbing then got more pronounced and then it got UNBEARABLE I thought maybe that I had an upper ball joint seizing but I just pulled the drivers side wheel and it appears to be the electric steering mechanism itself making the noise. Doing some research to see what the common problems are with it. Check out this link.
is that what yours sounds like?
Update: I got the truck up on a rack disconnected both sides tie rods and the electric steering system is fine. That noise was from the PASSENGER side lower ball joint. It is the factory ball joints on that side and both were dry of grease (factory ball joints do nto have grease fittings) I took a grease needle and pumped some grease into the top and bottom boots and it is all good for now. I will replace them once the weather warms up as they are not loose but probably damaged by being dry and will not last very long now.

Wow, that sounds horrible. Mine is not like that, but I was thinking there may be some parts that need to be greased. I didn't realize they weren't greasable, that sucks.

Mine still makes noise but unfortunately I haven't done anything about. I did get a call from my dealer and they said I have a TSB or recall of some kind that needs to be addressed with the steering, so maybe that will help or I can at least talk to somebody again when I take it in for that.

I feel that a vehicle can be driven with leaking power steering components, but you'll need to make sure there's enough fluid for the system to function. If the fluid is leaking fast, have the car towed to a repair shop to prevent damage to the power steering system.

I don't think there is any fluid in the 2015+ models. The steering is all electric at this point, I believe.
