Hey guys business has been good so been looking at getting a Tahoe Yukon or burban, already have an obs Yukon but looking for a nbs. Question is I see a lot of people, particularly on Facebook marketplace that advertise their rigs as 4wd but when looking at the dash pics I don’t always see the switch panel for the 4wd, so where are they usually? I thought they were only to the left of the cluster, is there somewhere else they put them? Also how good are the AWD Yukon’s? Do they have the switch panel? Are all of them AWD or do some have regular 4wd? Sorry for all the questions any help here would be greatly appreciated

Yes as swath said, if it’s a 4WD equipped truck the electronic controls will be in the rectangularish shaped spot to the upper left of the cluster, above the headlight control. That’s the only place they would be located. If you’re unsure, ask for a pic of the RPO codes. If it’s an AWD Yukon, it won’t have that switch, however, that being said the AWD non Denali package Yukon is pretty rare. Only seen a handful of them. You might only find one or two and you would need to see the rpo sheet to verify the AWD or not. In the GMT800 all Denali package Yukon’s and Yukon XLs will be the AWD system. Other than that you’re more than likely to find a 4WD equipped Yukon.

The 2004 was a unique year for those buttons on tahoes and yukons. The tahoes and Yukons (non-denalis), were 2WD (no buttons) or 4WD with buttons.

Escalades are AWD or RWD. The AWD was an option, but based on what I have seen, it looks like near all of them were AWD. The Yukon Denali was AWD. (Didn't know there even was a non-awd denali). These AWD won't have any buttons.

If you find one you like, I would run a vin check and get the RPO codes, or see if you can get the list of them off the glovebox. From what I have seen, most people don't seem to know the difference between 4WD and AWD or don't know which one they have.

Ok thanks for the info guys, that was kind of what I thought about the switch location. I’m not too keen on the AWD so Ill just bypass those and stick with normal 4wd, don’t much care for Denalis anyway

Saw this one, they said it’s a 2500 4wd burban but the dash switch doesn’t look like a 4wd switch, what is it?42d25ce32761e0b7f684c76431c8dce2.jpg

Believe that is traction control. I had a 2000 Tahoe back in the day and am pretty sure that’s what it was. We had an 04 a few years later and the button was under the center vent.

Regardless, it’s a 2WD.
