Brittle plastic/pvc panel under the dash: '01 Yukon XL

Hello Forum Members,

I am posting for my sister who reported the plastic under the dash of her 2001 Yukon XL is extremely brittle and breaks off easily. I assume this is on the driver's side of the Yukon XL since the passenger side is occupied by the climate control's ductwork. I am sorry I don't have more detail, the vehicle is not local. I will try to obtain a photograph. My sister believes this issue is related to age and is contemplating selling the Yukon XL because of its age.

After several searches on Google and the Tahoe/Yukon forum, I was unable to find a similar issue.
However, I did learn the brittleness may be due to the change in temperature or use of inferior material.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Did it compromise anything in regards to support of the dash or other components?
I have not identified the exact panel. Therefore, I am unsure if the replacement would be expensive or time consuming.

I suspect it is minor issue.

Have her email or text you a picture so you can post it here. If it’s the knee bolster it’s super easy to replace and she can find a used one on eBay. 01’s don’t have problems with the interior plastics.

Agreed , I have the oldest NBS model made and I don't have any problems with brittle interior pieces. The only parts I have found to be a problem are the rear window switch covers get weak after a while. That knee bolster should be EZ to find and replace if that is the problem.

The ductwork is probably the thinnest plastic I can think of anywhere under the dash, unless she is pulling dash pieces off, or under the carpet. The bezel is probably a close second. I'm in the phoenix desert, where my truck sits outside with no shade in 120 degree weather for days. It gets over 160 degrees in the cab then, and I have never had, seen, or heard of any brittle plastic.

I've seen many many many of the kick panel under the dash/steering wheel, there not known to crack or break at all, it would have to be highly unusual and like stated above easily replaced, 2 screws and it pops off

Hello. Does any have experience with the following brittle panel? Is the replacement of this panel possible without removing the dash?

I am currently out of the country, but will try to inquire with a dealer once I return to the USA.

Any feedback regarding the fracturing brittle panel and it's replacement would be appreciated. By the way, the panel is located above the brake pedal area and the pieces fall directly to the floor. The truck is also driver on rough road or driveway, which may slso contribute to the failure or fractures of the brittle panel.

Thank you for your replies and comments.
I hope the panel is simply a kick panel and as mentioned above, an easy replacement. The vehicle resided in SoCal before my sister purchased it and relocated the vehicle to Ohio. Therefore, it has not been exposed to extreme temperatures. It is also a low mileage (120k) 2500, 4x4, 6.0L SLE Yukon XL, relative to its age. I will post an update once the details are determined. I have a 2001 Tahoe with the same problem. I don't know what the stuff is but there is a lot of it. It may have helped reduce noise Pieces have been falling out of mine for years. I noticed it on the drivers side first but there is plenty of it on the passenger side also. I have not noticed any functional problems but, on the passenger side above the kick panel the missing plastic allowed rodents to get in and start nesting. It would be hard to replace the panels and I don't see any functional issues. I may stop at the dealer to find out what they are for.
