Yes. Over oiled filters will cause problems with any MAF sensor. I prefer a dry high flow filter in the stock air box. AFE and Airaid are good choices.

Good lord, there’s no way for me to do this! There is absolutely no room to work!! Trying to stuff my 6’6” frame into that tiny space... just can’t do it!

6'6"?? How's the weather up there?

I have owned and worked on dozens of gm cars in my life ( 50s, 60s, mostly, but a few newer and now this Tahoe)...and this has been one of the most miserable jobs EVER! Finally went to Harbor Freight and bought an Oscillating power tool and a couple of bits and just ripped through that SOB like a hot knife through butter!

And, after all that, when I finally got it all opened up...nothing! A few ancient dried up pine needles, a little dried leaf residue, no mold or mildew or anything. REALLY clean for a 15 year old vehicle!
After all the crap that was in the engine air filter box, I was expecting a real mess!

Honestly, not worth the effort and expense! This car has been in So Calif it’s whole life, so not subjected to a bunch of snow and ice, so maybe that’s why it was so clean?

But overall, not a necessary mod at all!
