I have a 2004 Tahoe that has the ugly not removable European tow hitch. I would like to swap to US version for looks and also later after lifting the truck to be able to use lower ball mount and maybe to put spare tire carrier to the tow hitch (I have LPG tank under trunk). Unfortunately in Estonia there are very few US Tahoes for parts, but there are some US Suburbans and long Escalade models to parts. I have heard that the tow hitch is not the same for long and short models. My question is, how much the tow hitches differ and is it possible to rework the long models tow hitch to fit it to Tahoe? Has anyone done it? What and how needs to be reworked?

They should be the same, maybe only difference is the tow capacity depending on the model of truck.

The part number is 12498497. That hitch is the same part number for
2003-2006 Suburban 1500 & 2500
2003-2006 Avalanche 1500 & 2500
2003-2006 Escalade ESV, EXT, & short wheel base, (all three versions)
2003-2006 Yukon Short wheel base, 1500XL & 2500 XL
2003-2006 Tahoe

I found some info that said its the same as the pickups too, the Silverado and sierra, but not sure.

Do you have a photo of the European hitch? Just curious how they're different.

Here is a picture of my car from behind, made few years ago. The rear fog light, seen on the picture, was temporary, because the original is broken and there must be a rear fog light for vehicle inspection. Missing rear fog light is considered a dangerous defect in Estonia and you cannot pass vehicle inspection without it.

Interesting. I have never seen a hitch like that.

Clean looking tahoe!

Yeah that’s an odd looking hitch. Never seen anything like it here in the US! Interesting tidbit to learn! I’m curious to see how things are supposed to connect up to it.

Do you mean the shape of the ball, when you refer to connecting? The same way as in US, there is a plastic cover on it in the picture.
