Those prices you quoted are way too high for a 5.3. totally outrageous. Those are new or very low mileage 6.2 prices. No way i would pay over 2k for a used 5.3. i just had your exact problem but it was lifter failure in an 2011 Tahoe. I got an 123k pull out from lkq for $1300 and had a friend to install it for $500. I would shop around some more for an engine. Even people in Texas and Louisiana sell engine and transmission drop out for less than $3500 5.3 and 6.2. do not spend 5k for a 5.3. that's crazy to do

Keep in mind, the Yukon is 250 miles from my home.

I'm not completely against a salvage yard engine, but the price you listed doesn't seem to be norm, at least within driving distance for me. Seems you have a good friend as well. The salvage price I listed includes 20 hours of labor to perform the swap as well as fluids and supplies. There's no feasible way for me to avoid the 20 hour labor charge in this case. I may as well get a reman with a 3 yr/100k warranty with DOD Delete already in place.

If I were driving it, I wouldn't mind dragging it home and attempting the work myself. This is the vehicle my wife and kids will be driving on the daily. I don't want to throw something together at the lowest cost and pray it works.

Those are normal lkq prices . I sell cars and ive never gotten a bad engine from them. It would atleast save you almost three grand

What made you decide to replace the engine due to lifter failure? Why not just replace the lifters, tune out DOD and move on? Did you replace the lifters (or do any other refreshing on it) in that 123k mile motor before putting it into your vehicle?
Well i had the vehicle for sale and had been driving it on low oil pressure since april. I had a mechanic to change the oil pump , sender and oring . All kinds of sorcery and the oil pressure was still 15lbs hot idle. There were no noises so i took it off the market and daily drove it putting thousands of more miles on it until last month when i finally had confidence it wasnt the engine. I put it on rent to own and the customer got down the street and the engine let go. it was knocking and screeching. Rubbing metal. I figured it wasnt worth it to delv into it at that point. Sounded like more than a lifter so i replaced the engine.

Yeah, that's definitely more than just a simple lifter issue LOL

I have not heard much good about Jasper rebuilts. Do a bit of research and decide for yourself as to reliability.
