Hello,

As the title states I hear an engine tick on my 95 5.7 tbi 2 door Tahoe with 140k when accelerating....sometimes. So to get to the point, when I accelerate, i hear a loud metal vs metal clicking noise from what sounds like the rear of the motor. Search online meantions similar issues but mine seems slightly different. The noise started yesterday and is nonexistent sometimes even when accelerating. Immediately upon releasing the gas pedal the noise stops and if I slam on the gas it goes away for a few seconds. When in neutral or park, reving the engine doesn’t produce the noise and the truck doesn’t run hot or leak coolant at all.

Anyone seen or have any ideas?

Any help greatly appreciated!!!

Joe

Sounds like pinging (as in detonation, spark knock, preignition, etc) to me. Carbon build up, running lean, too advanced timing, old or wrong plugs, or plain ‘ol age. Run a tank of super + gas, and try again.

Or it could be as simple as a loose or rotted exhaust heat shield.

See if you can get a sound clip. Very hard for anyone to diagnose a noise on a vehicle from the other side of internet whilst sitting on their bowl.

Thank you. I was able to record it on my phone.

Hopefully this works

ya I have to admit doesn't sound good.....I am really just guessing but maybe a bad lifter?, have you pulled the valve covers off and taken a closer look? maybe someone else has a better idea of what it could be

Did you check exhaust manifold for any stud heads missing, just to rule it out?
