The outside door handles are painted over smooth black which isn't good, plus they're in need of repainting or at least clear coat. So today I ordered new OEM paint-to-match ones even though they're about 2 1/2 times what the aftermarket ones go for. I just don't want one breaking after I pay to have them painted. $170 for 4 damn handles.

I hear that, are the aftermarket ones prone to breaking? I was looking at some the other day?

I heard they are, depending on the brand and I can’t find out which brand is good. It’s weird too that if you go to RockAuto they say various mfrs and they can’t guarantee which brand you’ll get.

Yeah I would be cool with spending that kind of $ to have them painted and then never know if I got the ones that might break. You order OEM’s off RockAuto or from the dealership?

I got the handles in and even though they’re listed as PTM they’re glossy af and so I might just leave the black, but Im undecided. I’ll talk to the painter first, and if he feels ok painting them then I’ll have them done. Black might look good too, there’s some black contrasting pieces on the truck already. Also got an led light bar in but it might be too short. I’m thinking I can cover both openings in the bumper completely with light bars if I can get the right lengths in the curved ones. I’ll pull the bumper when it goes in for sanding/ painting on Monday. I cant mount anything with it installed.

I sent that light bar back; it was 22" and I decided I can fit a 26" in the upper and a 50" in the lower opening. I used that light to test the fit at all 4 corners and in the centers. The new ones are the same exact brand, the only difference is the lengths. The curve is almost exact on the 22" I had so the 26" should be even closer and I'm hoping the 50" curve will be right too. The lower one will sit even with the bottom of the bumper. It should look good- the light housings themselves should extend just past the ends of the openings with none of the LED's themselves behind anything so when they're on there won't be any light shining from where it shouldn't. I'll just have to fab up the mounting. The truck's going to the paint shop on Monday. When I get the light bars in, I'll pull the bumper and mount them. That's going to be a helluva lot of light and the only time they'll probably be on is for show. I just want to fill the openings with something other than plain old boring panels or try to match up grill material.IMG_8580.JPG

All the wildfires in Cali and southern OR have created so much smoke and ash headed our way that when it rained today for the first time in 2 months it left a mess on my rigs. D09186DB-4878-4978-8CC0-DC42D35BF0D6.jpeg

I stopped by the body shop today. Sanding and buffing is done and it looks awesome. They will paint the new handles today and tomorrow put it all back together, wax it and seal it with F11. I will have one of the LED light bars tomorrow so I'll probably pull the bumper when I get it home and start fabricating thatIMG_8584.JPG IMG_8585.JPG IMG_8586.JPG sanding1.jpg sanding2.jpg .

Got it back today. Man it looks good. This is what it should have looked like after they painted it. The handles look so much better too, not all textured like the other ones. He said sometime this Winter I can bring him the mirrors and he'll repaint them for free; he has some of the paint left over and he's saving it. he just didn't have time right now.IMG_8590.JPG IMG_8591.JPG IMG_8592.JPG IMG_8593.JPG
