Pcv?

My Brother in law has a 12' burb ltz. He took it into the shop and they told him "crankcase ventilation plugged on crankcase" and it would be $200 to fix. Are they suggesting the PCV needs to be replaced?

Sounds like PCV Valve to me...

Yeah, but it is integral to the valve cover and has no moving parts, right? It might cost $200 to remove the valve cover, blow it out, clean it, put it back together with a new gasket.

So, the valve cover needs to come of. At that point does the PCV just get cleaned/freed up and the cover reinstalled or are we talking about replacing the whole valve cover?

Ask the shop what the estimate is for, they can tell you what parts are needed. Keep in mind most shops charge $100 an hour labor nowadays so it adds up fast. BTW you can edit the post title, at the top is a tab that says thread tools. Under that is the option to edit the title or add a poll.

Thanks for the info. I'm trying to see if I can do the work for him that's why I asked.

I understand, I'm just not sure if you can clean the PCV or if you have to replace the valve cover. So my suggestion is to ask the shop what they were going to do in a round-about way by asking what parts they were replacing and then you can replicate that but save on the labor. Or you could just ask them if the PCV can be cleaned. Sometimes they don't like to answer questions about how to do something but they have to tell you what parts were included in an estimate. The gasket can be reusable, it's rubber.

I would not think the rocker cover would need replacing but have no experience with this new to me PCV system. As I understand it has no moving parts, not like the PCV valve in the grommet with the check valve I grew up with. A new rocker cover is about $50.
