Which head bolts... 1st or 2nd design?

Well, I thought I had it figured out, but I'm stumped again. Installed what I thought were 2nd design heads today and went to bolt them up with a 2nd design Fel-Pro (ES72220) bolt kit and literally came up short. I'll be ordering 1st design (ES72173) bolts as the set for the cracked heads grab...

    Identifying Brackets & a Connector

Appreciate you having a look. This is as far in as I have been on this vehicle. The bracket was floating when the head came off. My only concern is it wearing through the ground strap. It's gotten a head start, but isn't too bad. I will improvise since everything is rigid even without it secured.

Yes it does. Fairly certain the lighter gray piece is what's wrapped around my dual fuel lines. Thanks for the keywords. I'll search for a picture and follow-up.

    Replacement Rocker Arm Bolts

One of the bolts gave and required an extractor socket for removal. I'd love to purchase a single bolt, but I cannot even find half or whole sets of OE style bolts. Are moving to studs my only option? 4554-1 Comp Cams Rocker Arm Stud

    Identifying Brackets & a Connector

Yes it is! This is sitting right near where the fuel line guard (as identified earlier in the thread) sits on the rear of the driver's side head.

Ahh cool that is rad. I'll make sure everything is seated properly with that. The burning question is the loose bracket though. Any ideas on how that might be tied down?

    Identifying Brackets & a Connector

Hey y'all, Currently doing a head swap on my 2004 Z71 5.3L FLEX. Noticed the bracket in the red square is loose. Seems to have chewed through the Ground Strap too. It holds the fuel lines and EVAP. A plastic connector is also free. Would anyone know where this is tied down, and with what...

Guess I'm making a habit of reviving threads. Thanks to OP!! Adding 5.3 Liter Vortec head bolt torque sequence For 2003-04 vehicles, tighten the cylinder head bolts in sequence as follows: Tighten the M11 bolts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm). Tighten the M11 an additional 90 degrees. Tighten M11...

Which head bolts... 1st or 2nd design?

Not to revive this thread, but wanted to clarify some info. 1st Design, cast # 762 (Prone to cracking) GM, 1256, 1706, Battery shape (Under valve cover) 706 (Corner of head) 3 different length head bolts 2nd Design, cast # 862 (The one you want) Confirming numbers, but was told it has a...

Coolant Recovery Tank Flowing & Low Operating Coolant Temperature

Would be worth a trip to the plumbing section to find a more future proof method such as that. Thank you for the reference!

Coolant Recovery Tank Flowing & Low Operating Coolant Temperature

Not pretty, but it did the trick. Was able to reach 205* or thereabouts. My only concern now is restricting it too much and causing some other malfunction.
