The 2012 Denali XL is still purring along with no issues. Have put about 40K miles on her since I bought it with 100K. I need rear brakes again and going to do pads and rotors. Front differential pinion seal replaced recently as it was starting to seep, and a new relay switch for the brake...
I tow a 7k TT and family of 5 plus German Sheppard all around CA, OR, NV so climb all the hills. Started with a 2005 Yukon XL 1500 with the 5.3 and 3.42. Hills killed me. Upgraded to 2012 Yukon XL Denali - pulls great with the 6 speed, and I really like the auto level. Earlier this year I picked...
Update 5/2/21
Front shocks were shot - replaced with the Bilstein 4600s, also replaced the first Timbren’s with the replacement pair they sent. So far much better, will dial in WDH next weekend but feel these 2 items will go along way to fixing the issue. Pics for reference - original shocks...
Appreciate it - my thoughts exactly and precisely why I bought it. Had been looking for about a year. Wanted something I can keep for the next couple decades. Wife approved :) The trailer is not a toy hauler, dry weight 5,500 and scale verified 6,420 loaded. Yes, the 5.3L did not like hills, but...
Great questions George, happy to answer because I'm trying to get this figured out myself. I probably should have mentioned it's not a new trailer - I've towed it with my 1/2 tons over 7,000 miles the last 4 years with no issues other than under power with the 5.3L/3.42 combo on my previous 2005...
Without having looked it up - where do the airbags go with the leaf springs In back? Had previously considered on my 1/2 ton but those went inside the rear springs. Thanks for the input.
To be comprehensive I plan to re-weigh and get axle weights this time. Note the total Gross of 13.5 was fully loaded and the trailer was unhitched and weighed separate. Thanks for the input I’ll keep providing updates until I get it figured out.
Understood, I’d be inclined to trust the manufacturer recommendation as they state there is no difference between the 2 besides length to accommodate higher rides. I towed it with my previous 1/2 ton Yukon XL without added suspension just fine. My wife’s Denali pulls it it fine (of course it has...
Appreciate your input James (and others) - it's been weighed at a scale which I included, 6,420 TT only 13,520 total Gross. Dry tongue weight is listed at 540lbs - and I have the storage in the front loaded with 2 cases of water dead center, and all of our gear so it is easily another 100lbs...
