I have a few questions regarding my soon to be built Sub-Box. I want to have the box Line-X'ed, How do I keep the hole from and space where the sub will mount getting line-X'ed? Should I just trace out the area where the sub will be and use a piece of Acrylic to cover this area?

Also, I want to mount my AMP to Acrylic as well. I also want to light the Acrylic up with LEDS, How do I got about doing this?

Anybody have a write-up to how to?

Thanks

I'd ask the shop about the holes for the speakers - likely they have done something similar before. They might just tell you to tape something in place, not sure how high pressure the sprayer is. (Which leads me to ask the question if you considered just getting the roll on bedliner kit and doing it yourself.)

Only help I can give you is this: http://led.linear1.org/led.wiz
Input the values and it tells you what size resistor(s) you will need, as well as where in the circuit to put them.

line-x is applied at a very hot temperature and high pressure. Which drys it faster and harder. Rhino Is applied cooler and at a much lower pressure, which makes it dry slower, but much softer.

did not know that about Line-X. Does that hardness really matter for a sub box? Just askin here, not trying to start any kind of flaming.

What about having the line-x applied THEN cutting the holes for the subs?

Yeah I was wondering that as well. But the thing is they say Line-X is Chip, and cut resistant?

I might need to call around and see what my options are.

I throw alot of stuff in the back of my truck, from tools, to baseball equipment. I even throw some parts back there for buddies trucks. I just want to have the box protected from and real damage.

RT, Is your box ***** in leather or carpet? Is it hard to rap something in leather or just it just take time to get it stretched out around the corners and such?

If that's all you're looking for, I think that Rhinoliner would be fine. Brush it on yourself, no issues. It'll be plenty hard to protect the box from dings and stuff. Yeah, Line-X is tougher, but we're talking about truck bedliner here. There's extreme, then there's over-the-top extreme. I think trying to go Line-X is over the top.

I agree. IMO you shouldnt need any protection as the boxes are pretty tough on their own. BUt if you feel you must than get the rhino. It will feel softer to the touch as well.

And not to discount Rhinoliner, there were a lot of guys over on Jeeps Unlimited that used that to paint the body cladding (plastic panels) and bumpers on the Grand Cherokees, so it's still pretty tough. I think that'll work well and save you some cash....which you can send to me for helping you. :)

The easiest way to light up sheets of acrylic is to pocket drill holes at the edges for the led's to sit in, and epoxy or hot glue them on. This essentially means you have to use 1/4 or thicker acrylic. I'd personally use 1/2 to 3/4 for any sort of amp mounting.

Also will light up better if you frost the acrylic, can be done easily with a air wizzer and light scuff pad. Just haze the back side leaving the front shiney.

Ok, When you say pocket holes, do you mean a small tiny drill hole? Just deep enough for the LED?

you could place the circle from which was left over from the sub cutout back in the hole and just remove it once you are done applying the line-x, you may have to use some tape or something to hold it in place though
