I had my check engine light come on a while back AFTER reading the TIGHTEN FUEL CAP message on the DIC.

I purchased a brand new OEM fuel cap about three weeks ago and went on a longer trip immidiately after installig it. During the trip, the check engine light reset and I never read the TIGHTEN FUEL CAP message anymore, ............. all was good for a while.

The DIC recently displayed the TIGHTEN FUEL CAP message again and the check engine light is back on and has STAYED on. The DIC periodically does show the TIGHTEN FUEL CAP message.

Anyone expereienced this before, what could be the issue? I did NOT diagnose the Code as of yet and I have not taken the truck to the dealer or a mechanic as of yet either.

I do not feel any perfomance issues at all, but staring at the check engine light or the DIC message is starting to get annoying.

Any help is appreciated, thaak you in advance.

Side note: I went through the same thing. I replaced the cap, didn't fix it. I replaced the tank solenoid thingy. It fixed it for a month or two then it came back. I deleted the code from the computer, SES light stopped coming on but tighten gas cap still appears on the dash most times when the tank runs between 1/4-3/4. I realized, I been leaving the truck running while filling. As soon as I stopped doing that and cycled the ignition during fill up, it has stopped coming on again. Just an FYI.

Purchased the AC DELCO part on eBay for $23.00 including shipping.

Part arrived today and I installed it after removing my spare tire. As described in above thread, installation was fairly easy and all went as planned.

During fill up, I noticed a considerable difference and nozzle shut of only once.

Check Engine light is still on, hope for it to reset in the next couple of days.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

Cool beans. Whatever happens (if the CEL goes away or if you continue to have issues) please report back her for the sake of posterity.

Well, check engine light is still on and I just got the tighten fuel cap message again.

Guess my $23.00 part did not fix the issue. :-(

Any other suggestions prior to going to the dealership?

Cleared the P0455 code today, check engine light has now been reset as well.

Hope it will stay off!

Unfortunately, the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT came back on this morning. :-(

Thnaks for the help.
