thanks sir, looking it over now.. Thought I could just pick up a standalone harness and rock, just not sure how that will affect the speedo/tach/cruise control, all things I want to keep :)

Found an LQ4 longblock locally for $600 with 30,000 miles on it.. Is everyone swapping transmissions while they're at it??

You found a LQ4 block or entire engine with accessories for $600?

entire engine, that's why I want to jump on it if it's not going to be headache of the century to do the swap.

heck, even for the resale....if your close, I'd consider buying it and making you some extra cash on top of that.

Shit if you do end up doing the swap, let me know how it goes. I thought about doing it and throwing in a 4L80E too but figured it would be too hard. I'd love to have that set up in my Tahoe.

Turned out to be too good to be true. motor was 1 hour away, called and told him I was bringing everything i needed to start the engine to test it (white lie) he agreed that was a good idea and I was going to come over tonight. He called back one hour later with the story that his son had sold that engine without him knowing, but he did have another LQ4 that was slightly more 'used' but he iddn't know if it ran as it was sitting underwater for an indeterminate amount of time. Awesome.

Now that i've found how how not hard it would be i kind of want to go ahead with it, might look to a 5.3 instead though for $$$ savings.. need to have money to put into the toy too.. BUGGER!

Damn dude, that is ******. Check this link out..

It really doesn't look that hard other than the wiring issues you will run into. From what I have been reading, the engine needs to be 2002 or older because after 2002, they use an electric throttle body. Or some shit like that. The link also says using a NBS cluster would work better and be plug n play with a piggyback harness unlike the stock one where you have wire the hell out of it to make it work. Plus the NBS cluster would look so bad ass. But 'm guessing it would be a ***** and a half to make it fit without making it look like complete ass. The good news is, if I decide to do this, the guy who did the swap (LiftedLQ9) lives about a half hour from me.

Electronic throttle bodies don't scare me, I'd probably opt to leave the throttle body and do a DBW pedal conversion on my 5.3, along with the "piggyback" harness that keeps both ECU's.. i'd love to do a guage swap but I don't care to mess around with interior stuff that much. As it is I'm replacing the carpet with spray in bed liner and redoing the seats...

Seriously though, if you do it, take a lot of pics and do a build thread so I can see how it goes. I have a 1995 2 door Tahoe with 190k and the stock power plant is getting a bit tired so I am thinking a new engine is in order in the future. And I don't want to go with a new stock long block, I want something with a little more power and a 5.3L or 6.0L will be just the ticket. :Handshake:

I will certainly take tons of pictures and document the swap when it happens. It will probably be later this winter as I want to get the outside of the truck fixed up a bit first (get rid of the rust on the bottom of the doors etc) and the things that need to be done to keep it runnning/driving well. I did see this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SIER...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

seems like a decent price.. would probably replace the springs/rods/lifters before slapping it in the truck, as it's already got 100k on it... maybe a small 224/224 cam...

Anyway, this thread will remain active while I collect parts for the swap :)

Yeah that is a pretty decent price on an engine that is complete. I would deffinetly do a mild rebuild with a few upgrades before throwing it in.

Hey throw up some pics of your Yukon and Vette. I know what you mean by getting rid of rust. I redid both rockers and the bottom of both doors last summer. Slapped on some new paint and clear and it looks good as new. No rust for me. It is still holding up excellent but if it comes back in the future I might Rhino Line the rockers from the door trim down to eliminate the problem all together. My buddy had it done to his Silverado and I think it looks pretty decent. These Michigan winters are a ***** on vehicles especially with all the damn road salt they use.
