I'll turn rain sense off and will hit record if it happens again.

From the looks of things in this thread, it looks like you went a good 4 months before trying this (if you have, in fact, tried this). Assuming you have turned the rain sense off, have you had the problem since?

It happened today! I have had Rain Sense turned off since that suggested was posted above. I haven't had any full stoppages (it did pause twice mid-wipe but restarted immediately) until today. I had my kids in the car and was able to get a video showing Rain Sense turned off and my trying to get the wipers going without any luck. I even tried rapidly spinning the switch like was recently suggested. The wipers started moving after about 4 minutes, but pretty scary.
I will be calling GM Customer Care tomorrow and will also be reporting it to NHTSA as suggested above.

Thanks for the update. This is definitely crazy. I’ll be crossing my fingers during my rainy two 250-mile drives this weekend.

I have a 2023 GMC Yukon XL. I bought it brand new. I currently have 11K miles on it.

Periodically when I'm driving in the rain with my front windshield wipers on they totally stop working. I try every setting on the wiper dial (all intermittent settings and LO and HI) and they won't start working again. I will be driving at any speed up to 65 mph. They'll stay off for anywhere from 5-15 minutes and then just start working again. Everything else on that stem will continue working properly (all settings for rear wipers, turn signals, even the windshield wash button -- but no wipers).

This is clearly very dangerous and very bad. I've taken it to my GMC dealer, but they cannot find fault because it's not failing at the particular moment they are troubleshooting it. They've told me "too bad" which to me is ridiculous and they won't try swapping out parts to find a solution. I've escalated to GM Customer Service but so far they've only told me to seek a second opinion.

I have 2 questions:
1. Has anyone seen or heard of this before and have any recommendations on what could be wrong?
2. Does anyone have any advice on how to get better support from GM/GMC for something that is clearly a significant safety issue for a truck that is still under warranty?
Yes, I have the exact same scenario with my 2022 Denali! I am on my second trip to the dealership now. Stay tuned

My dealer replaced the wiper module about two weeks ago. The report said they found an internal short causing it to periodically fail (I’m not sure I believe this as they might have just wrote this to count as a warranty repair).
It’s been 2 weeks now and so far haven’t had a repeat of my original wiper issue. My issue was so infrequent that I’m not claiming success yet, but I am glad that GMC finally started replacing parts.
Let me know what your dealer does to fix the problem!

I am having the same issue. I took my vehicle to the dealer. They had for 2 days. The could not replicate the problem. They told me to bring the vehicle back when the problem was happening. This is a very serious problem that need to be resolved!

Locate the windshield wiper relay and place a mark on it so you know which one you're targeting. Swap it with a similar relay and see if there's a difference. Sounds like a sticking relay. Condensation can form almost anywhere.....even inside relays.

I called the local GM dealer and apparently it’s happened enough for GM to put out a service bulletin about it. The advisor said there may or may not be a recall come about soon. Until then, here is a copy of the bulletin
Thanks for posting this. My 2023 Yukon Denali did this yesterday while out of town. They didn’t come back in yesterday but today did. I will call my dealership tomorrow. I’m still under warranty as well.

Hi - new member here, I just registered for the sole purpose of following this thread.

I have a 2023 Yukon Denali I bought used with 11k miles. Beautiful truck, love it.
However, like many others here, my wipers have quit working without warning, without cause.... I find this to be scary and dangerous. I just added my details to the NHTSA (reported my VIN).
The wipers do exactly what everyone else has said -- no warning, the nnothing helps for 10-15 minutes. Then all of a sudden, they work again?!?

I'd say it has happened perhaps four times total in my four months of ownership. Once a Month? The first time I was doing 70+ and was able to continue driving... once slowing to 45 or slower, it was impossibe to see. The higher speed kept my windshield clear enough.

I checked everything I could think of (fuse under the hood Continuity was good), and could find no root cause. I'm not a fan of my local GMC Dealership, so I haven't taken it in yet; plus I don't want them to have it for a few days, to do 'nothing'.

from a historical perspective with GM wipers, it has been the wiper module that causes the most problems. getting them to replace it under warranty when it is a intermittent issue is not easy.

2022 Tahoe here- just happened to be. Wipers stopped working for about 2 minutes or so in every setting, then came back. Following for resolution.

I am the Original Poster for this thread. I have had a terrible experience. My issue is still not resolved. I am now on my 3rd windshield wiper module and still have the intermittent stoppage. The stoppage has lasted anywhere from ~7 minutes to 24 hours! I have had 50 phone calls with GM Customer Service that have lasted 271 minutes (4.5 hours!). They continue to decline me for the repurchase program with no explanation given. I have sent them videos of the failure. The last time I had the truck in for service the GM technicians were able to see the fault for themselves while they had the truck. The replaced the module (this was the 2nd replacement, so the 3rd module including the one when I bought the truck new) and the very next day I got the failure again.
I am totally at a loss for what to do. I talked to a lawyer today for advice on what my next steps should be. He's recommending Lemon Law or potentially Class-Action suit.

The first rain the Tahoe was driven in they acted weird in my wife's Tahoe and I didn't like the way they performed the next thing was turning the rain sense wipers off in settings, I don't need a vehicle doing it for me as I know when I need wipers.

I’ve tried this. Further back in the thread this was a recommendation and I’ve tried it unsuccessfully.

Seeing how the 3 wiper modules they have installed didnt fix the issue, my guess would be the module has never been the issue in the first place. They need to trace further…theres gotta be other parts to the system.

I have a 2021 Suburban and have been dealing with the issue since new.... It will happen every few months.

For awhile I could pull the battery terminals, connect them to reset the computers... that use to fix them right away.

It just happen again last night and the battery reset didn't work.... The dealer looked at it when it was under warranty (96K miles now) and put dielectric grease on the connection because they couldn't reproduce the issue.

I love the Burb but i am ready to trade it in because of this .... If anyone one determines a fix please post!!

I'm the Original Poster. So, after my 3rd windshield wiper module, the intermittent failure still exists. I discussed with a lawyer and sent in a Lemon Law letter. They acknowledged the letter and flew out a technician to work on the truck. After a day of working on the truck he didn't find anything wrong and didn't make any repairs. GM then acknowledged that the wipers were not repaired. GM Customer Care filed for Repurchase of the truck and then denied it (because they said my initial service was over 24k miles - this was incorrect as it was 11k miles -- see my opening post of this thread). Once I sent in the service record docs, they filed for Repurchase again and denied it because they said that each service appointment was only for 1 day. This too was incorrect, but either way, I still didn't leave the service station with repaired wipers.
So, now my lawyer is looking to file a class-action lawsuit over this issue and is looking of other owners that have faced the same issue. If you have had the same issue, please let me know -- reply here, or send me a message and I'll get back to you.
