2013 Yukon Denali 6.2 lifter problem and cost??

Good afternoon. I was just told that my 2013 Yukon Denali 6.2 has a bad lifter. The mechanic recommended replacing all 16 lifters and told me it would be around $4,000.00 to complete the job. Does this sound reasonable? I don't know much about this sort of thing but have read that the lifters are a problem.

I've never paid to do it, but i do know it's pretty involved. If you are at this point and want it to be OEM with AFM then do all 16. If you don't like AFM, now might be the time for a non-AFM cam and new lifters. I'm sure others on here will have a better scope of costs. Bummer dude

thanks and it is a huge bummer - hopefully someone will have an idea of a cost for this type of thing

Yes, I've seen quotes for that much and higher, up to around $5000 or so. I've done this job on that engine 3x so I know it first-hand. I can do it now in about 16 hours, including the cam.

That said, the book time for the job according to Alldata is 12.6 hours to R&R the lifters for both banks, and it goes up from there if the cam has to come out. Add another 4-6 for the cam, etc. if necessary because the radiator has to come out, front cover and timing set, harmonic balancer, power steering pulley, etc etc. So, book time for just the lifters at $150/hr will run about $2K, add another $600-$1K if the cam comes out, plus parts, which will be $1-1.5K for OEM parts, gaskets and fluids. Summary: $4000 is a fair estimate that will leave some wiggle room. If the cam doesn't need to come out then it will save you probably $600 off that estimate.

You can also do this job yourself if you're handy. I have a writeup here on it that you can use as a starting point.

Your $4000 quote is reasonable for sure...
IF you are just doing lifters and the cam is still fine, then my advice to You:
Replace the VLOM with the new updated part from Dorman or get the GM part.

After all the work is done, TURN OFF that damned DOD/AFM...
There are a few options to turn it off

I just had it done on my 2015 Yukon xl denali. All my estimates were around 4k. Found a GM mechanic that works part-time out of his own garage that did it for $2,200

How many miles on those machines when the lifter(s) failed?

Location? Looks like I need to have the L94 replaced on my '11 Denali and the dealership ballparked it at $12K so a trusted, experienced, local guy is likely my best route.

Don’t forget about the L94 to L96 swap


You can even use a preloved L96 to get you around until you or a GM tech on a side job does the lifter swap on your current L94 when it’s out.

That crazy to think about having a L96 to sell for offsetting your cost when the swap is done.
