Hi all. Does anyone know where I can purchase or rent a service manual for the 08 Tahoe Hybrid? All basic aftermarket manuals I've come up with don't include the Hybrid. Specifically, I need to know the hours estimated to replace the electric AC Compressor.

Honestly i would not change it any noise you hear coming from it, is normal
the compressor is loud.as it's a spindle compressor and not a piston compressor I would NOT change the Freon. if a service tech screws up, 10k in damage... it's totaled.. any contamination means the whole entire system will need to be gutted....

most likely they don't have a second machine for electric A/C systems....

Don't mess with it, it's a $10,000 repair if there is contamination..

if I remember Thursday I can try looking it up. just remember being electric it. takes different oils and no dye like the old stuff.

prodamand says 2.5h for warranty and 3.2 normal labor not including recovery and recharge but does include programing in the notes. skill B whatever that means.
and something about add 0.2 where skid plate interferes.

they list the compressor itself as # 25880380 @$2778.60

I was probably ripped off if book time is 3.2, but oh well. Sometimes you have to take one to the gut. So, the compressor DID die (I know the difference between the typical electrical whine of the compressor vs an imminent failure). It lasted about two months with the ear piercing sound, but cooling just fine. I really thought it was a bearing inside the compressor, but the tech said no - it was something electrical.

Found a compressor from car-part.com and it was $128 shipped. My Tahoe has over 287K miles on it. It doesn't deserve a factory new compressor. It'd only make the rest of the truck feel envious.

Total to have the mechanic install (he's a hybrid specialist, so he knows about the POE oil and electrical compressors - he does a lot of Prius'), evacuate and charge was $1230. Total out of pocket around $1350. Still a heck of a lot better than $4k for a new compressor and installation. And, considering no one else would install user-furnished used parts, I'll be happy.

Whine is gone, air is cool, and Florida is tolerable once again.

that's a good price honestly. you take a normal car in for ac work and it's going to cost that or more to replace a compressor. so that's a good deal in book. I've peeked down there and it looks awful to change haha. I hope mine doesn't go out but if it does, I'll look for a used one too.
