Yeah, and I'm thankful for those people. That way, after a few years, when they depreciate to an affordable level, I can get one. My first full size SUV, a 2002 Expedition, I got 3 years old for exactly 1/3 of sticker price. That was special circumstances, that probably won't converge again. My Yukon was 6 years old at a little over 1/3 sticker. But still you gotta love depreciation.

I’ve always believed in letting someone else absorb the huge amount of depreciation that happens in the first year or two. The best deal I got was when I bought my daughter a Cruze that was less than a year old and had less than 2000 miles on it. Somebody bought it and decided they wanted something different so they traded it in. I got it for 1/3 less than the new ones on the lot and it had a bunch of extras that the original buyer ordered it with.

I remember you going through this. Actually, I tried to find that returned stapler in the Amazon Warehouse but someone else had already scooped it up.

I think the cracking is from the plastic aging and the unsupported areas failing. The plastic offgases as it ages and I suspect the dark areas around the cracks of yours was from exposure. I suggested Wade trying fix his since it was the first crack and (I believe) his is parked inside. So, I'm under the impression that his plastic is in much better shape, molecularly. But, with the type of plastic that it is, it will continue to get brittle. Ideal conditions (minimal exposure to harsh vibrations, UV, temperature extremes, etc.) slow down the decay, but it'll still eventually happen.

The cracks I epoxied have stayed just as they were almost four years later. But, I've got plenty of newer ones that make it not worth trying to fix any more. I still have my new dash in the shipping box. I guess I'll put it back on the '08's radar since it doesn't look like I'm getting another Tahoe.

If you decide to not swap that dash in, lmk and I'll give your money back since I bought the one that wasn't revised...

Depreciation of newer vehicles is probably fairly low at the moment with the microchip shortage and inflation. I could sell my duramax for $10k+ more today than I paid for it brand new in 2019

Yeah but you can’t buy another so what’s the point. My daughter asked me what I paid for hers because Carmax made an offer but I told her to go see what she could buy to replace it and she wised up. All those who buy at today’s inflated prices are going to get hit with enormous depreciation once the chip shortage gets caught up. It will balance out eventually. There’s gonna be a lot of upside down loans in the future.

It's just like the housing market in my area. It's an incredibly good time to sell. But then you're just on the other side of the equation when you buy. Unless you're relocating, or you already own your next house, there's no motive to cash out.

My last full regular day of work was yesterday. I am going to replace the seal at the oil cooler take off. It's weeping a little, I tried tightening the bolts a little but to no avail. It doesn't really need replaced but I am going to do it anyway. Does anyone have an opinion over the OEM or Felpro? I am also going to replace the driver's side glass and regulator. The glass has a couple of minor scratches and it rattles a bit. The scratches may be from when the previous owners were locked out or possibly someone tried to break in. That doesn't really need replaced either but I am going to do that anyway I think.
At 111,000 miles is there anything else I may want to do even though it may not need it?

I just wanted to get first in line. I could go ahead and get one but then I have to store it somewhere. I could sell or total the avalanche so I don't want a paper weight that size hanging around

I’ve used both and found the fel pro design harder to get to seal, requiring more torque than the bolts could withstand. Ended up having to put a helicoil in one of the holes, and used an OEM seal. No more leaks. Definitely use a torque wrench on those.

flush all fluids, including power steering, brake, differentials, transfer case, coolant, transmission.
all 4 02 sensors need to be done (they are rated for 100k)
plugs & wires
inspect everything else, shocks, bushings, hubs, calipers, tie rods, control arms, ball joints, etc

Replaced the seals for the power steering lines at the rack. Used gm instead of gates this time. No leaks in the 10 minutes I let it idle while cycling the wheels a few times. Hopefully that's resolved

Engine out, and I pulled the crank.
The thrust bearing is fine this time around!

Of course, it's still getting a new crank...

Doing a full tear down for inspection and cleaning...

Mainly I want to check the cam bearings to be sure no damage in case some metal bypassed the filter...
And i don't trust the machine shop I used, so i need to really look at the one rod bushing that had some damage.

I'm also disappointed that the clearcoat on the block yellowed so badly.

Yeah the factory stereos leave a lot to be desired. I got one with wireless CarPlay that I really like. So convenient, my phone stays in my pocket.

I do not have the rear entertainment setup. I found this video and I’m basically doing what he did minus the rear stuff. Adding in a backup camera too. I might do a thread but I suck at posting here lol
