Well folks, Hurricane Ida is bearing down on Louisiana which is home to a bunch of guys on here. For those of you who know the Lord, please keep these folks in your prayers.

As of 7AM the maximum sustained winds were 150 MPH, that's like a nuclear blast, just slabs left. My thoughts are particularly with Chris and his family since he's right in the path and may get the eye. Hopefully he'll go west and and then come back when its over.

After it passes, we'll see what we can do to help if necessary.

Thank you, James.

I'm not sure yet what we're gonna do. We really don't have anywhere to go other than camping out in the Tahoe. We're a house full of sick people with pets so that limits our hotel options even if we drove hours away.

The last direct hitter was Gustav in '08. He came ashore as a Cat 2 and they registered 90 MPH winds at Tiger Stadium, which is about 15 miles ESE of us. I'm expecting 100+ MPH here. I'm hoping the strongest of the winds are from the east as there are plenty of trees to help break them up some. There aren't any trees close enough to threaten the house if they were to fall. Some might brush the back of the shop, I think.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic.

Chris, I've been through 38 hurricanes so far, our rule is we leave town if we're expecting a Category 4 or higher.

Grab a hotel in Lafayette for the night if you can. The worst winds are in the eye wall and she's slowing down some. The good thing for you is that you won't be in the right hand punch where the worst of it will be. But if that eye passes near enough or over ya, and it's still a Cat 4, that's not good. Cat 3, forget about it and stay home, get the generator and chainsaw ready.

Read the "Forecast Advisories" and "Discussions", lots of good, detailed info in them from the NOAA forecasters.

When we left town for Andrew, we hid the dogs but it turned out they were allowed anyway. Many more are pet friendly these days and there's always a kennel or someone who will babysit them on Facebook.

Very sound input! That's the report I look at. I can't stand all the hype, ads and fearmongering from regular news stations when all I want are the facts.

The projected path keeps shifting more and more to the east. I really think we'll be far enough from the eye to not catch the Cat 4-level winds. I still feel that there will be an insurance claim, though.

That's what I'm praying for my friend, weaken fast and turn east quick, for everyone's sake!
