While driving to reset my sensors (all done except the cat!) I noticed that my oil pressure stays a constant 60 psi (I think it's psi). The gauge registers "0" until I start it, then jumps up to "60" and stays there until I shut it down.
I think if it was clogged it would read low, correct? With the truck having sat for extended periods of time the last 5 years I though maybe that I could have crudded up passages that are leading to increased pressure.
Still, I'm thinking a bad sensor anyway. Should I check anything else before picking one up?
Thanks in advance.

The oil pump has a by-pass that will bleed off excessive pressure . I don't know what is set for or if it has ever been changed altered etc. I Best thing is the add a mechanical oil pressure gauge temporarily and test it.

Okay, does it seem possible that I would have excessive pressure at or exceeding 60psi? It would have to be consistently at that pressure even at idle.

I don't know what is set for or if it has ever been changed altered etc.
Never been changed. As I recall, it would idle at around 20 psi, rising rapidly to around 50 or 60 with increased RPM.

Okay, do I fit it in the hole where the pressure gauge now resides?

Its on the left side above bellhousing behind intake, some have installed a small brass Tee so they don't have to remove sender in the future. 1-1/16 or sender socket. Hopefully its the sender. It's good to verify gauge accuracy.

Thanks all!
Well, got a gauge, it read correctly. Got a new sender, it reads right.
Didn't put a Tee on there, seems like a good idea but I've decided I'm not going to keep this truck another 21 1/2 years.
