It is a dumb "improvement" GM made.

You can order a tensioner for a 2008 and install it, the bolt holes are still there according to one of the other members who has already done it.

I'm not sure how much the stretch tool costs but I would rather put that money towards a tensioner.
Ahh. Mines an 07 so I still have the tensioner.

Comes with the tool
The tool is pretty slick.

The instructions that come with the tool are worthless.

One in the FSM are good,

funny it doesn't mention that stupid metal tab that gets in the way, you have to place it just right to get the belt on, getting it off is no problem
at least that's how it is on my 6.2 2012

It took me a few tries before i figured it out.
I even tossed it at one point, and then tried to roll the belt on with out it.

When that was a serious pita, i went back to the tool and figured it out.

And I'm watching youtube vids incase i can just roll a crank bearing into place.
Crossing fingers.

Probably not going to touch it for a while...

Wifes new car got a catch can installed, and i modified the pcv valve after watching several videos and posts about how weak the factory pcv was setup.

Pcv had these tiny little holes...

I opened that fker up amd installed a catch can.

Already sounds much better when cold.

It's our one car right now.

I’ve never had that issue with OEM parts. Dorman parts or other Chinese knockoffs? Yes. But not with OEM replacements. That’s definitely odd

maybe it's climate related I don't know but mine would squeak whenever it was cool out which wasn't so annoying once it warmed up it would go away, then other times they would just squeak constantly, sounded like fingernails on a chalkboard pretty much. It was always the a/c tensioner, never upper tensioner which is basically the same design just in a different location.

That would drive me absolutely nuts.
