New to this forum with 2007 Tahoe

Retired oilfield Radio communications, Love old Chevys, have rebuilt more than several motors, live in a rura area, and love life. I am 66 years old, and inherited my Father-in-laws 2007 Tahoe LT, Eaton rear end, heavy towing pkg with air level shocks on rear end, 5.3 flex engine with 64K miles. Burned oil like crazy due to AFM, programmed to raise activation temp to 300 degrees and stopped burning oil. Now have other problems.

Sounds like you have a pretty low mile vehicle with only 64K on a 13 year old vehicle. Folks here love to see pictures so post some pictures of your Tahoe if you can.

Being in Louisiana and you mentioning oilfield worker, I have to ask- what's your location?

I live in SE Oklahoma. Last area that I was over was from Minden LA (west of Minden to TX state line) on I-20 take I-20 to Carlsbad NM(everything east of Carlsbad to the TX state line) all of KS, OK, and AR for XTO Energy (part of ExxonMobil. Specialized in electronics - radio communication and building radio towers along with field automation of wellhead site remote control.

Engine warning light and oil pressure gauge went to near 0 pressure. No valve lifter noise, no temp increase, no indication that oil pressure had dropped. I drove at low speed to the house and parked it 3 miles away. I did notice that when restarted, I see pressure go up to about 30 psi then drop off again after 6 seconds. Still no lifter noise. I have AFM shut off via software. Could this be the filter screen or the in-bock oil pressure sensor going bad?

Add two more quarts of oil and see if the pressure stays up. If so, it's time for the pickup tube o-ring to be replaced. Yes, the screen can become clogged and need cleaning or replacement too, it's in the lifter valley under the intake near the firewall. If the oil pressure sensor is bad, there's a trouble code for that, usually.

We recommend that you put all your rig(s) info in your signature so we all don’t have to guess at year, make, model, engine size, trans, rear axle locker…….etc. Makes it way easier on all members that attempt to help, to have that info right up front. It is also recommended that you take a pic of your RPO codes, on the inside cover of the glove box, and post that image in your signature. All this info will greatly help those that will try to help with a problem.


If there is any other info, like upgrades, mods or recent mechanical/maintenance work done, that would be helpful in any post as well. Too many times a question is asked by the poster and after about 10 responses we find out that the poster has done recent work to attempt to fix the problem or work that was done that SEEMS not related to the problem.
