Hi all, I've located a good condition 6disc Bose stereo from an 05 Tahoe Z71 in very good condition and complete, at my local pick a part. I'd like to be able to test it there before buying it. Does anyone know which wires are which on the factory plug in? Mostly just concerned with power(s) and ground so I can power it up and try the CD stacker mechanism as that is what seems to break most often. Thank you in advance.

Usually pwr wires are red, orange or green. If it was me I'd just tie those wires together, put pwr to them, ground the black and go for it. Or bring a jumper box and connect to the battery cables under the hood--that's if it's pretty much intact under there.

Pretty sure if you're going to use the radio to replace yours you'll have to have it programmed to your VIN. Otherwise, you may be able to use the CD mechanism to replace the one in your radio, that's what I did with mine for a while before I went aftermarket.

I was going to use it for parts, but there is a work around to not have to have the VIN programmed to match. I saw on YouTube where you can remove one particular chip in the stereo itself and then it works in any vehicle.

I'm trying to not fry it by hooking it up incorrectly. Without knowing which wires are which it is taking a gamble. For how infrequently a good, non-blown-out one of these comes up at the yard, I don't want to risk short circuiting it. The jumper box idea is a good one, but I think they'll not let me in the gate with it, same as trying to bring a grinder in. Additionally, that would also require all the wiring, ignition switch and key to be in place, which it rarely is. If only.......

Still hoping someone out there has the pin-out wiring for the factory 6disc stereo.

Thanks.

Do you have a front and rear pic of your radio? I still have my old one...

Taking that chip out does work. I've done it. You do get a small ERR icon in the corner display, which doesn't affect anything. Question tho--how much could the yard possibly charge for a stock radio? $20-$25? Instead of driving yourself crazy, why not just buy it? Save yourself a huge headache just trying to figure out the logistics of powering it up in the yard.

I have a small 12v battery from a Dewalt tool I bring with me to test powering up stuff. Once I know which wire is power and which is ground, I'm off to the races.
