Had tons of GMT400s but this is my first GMT800 and I'm super confused. Even when the headlight switch is on "off" (the circle) when I drive at night the lights are on. Like wut? Does this thing have automatic headlights or is something broken? I have a Ford as well and that one is clear... auto mode is automatic, off is off. How can I change my Suburban back to manual headlights? I don't need auto mode. I don't like it. I don't want it. Thank you!

yes the headlights are automatic, you can turn them off either by bumping the knob down once or hitting the interior light on/off button 3 times one or the other, either way that only works until the key is turned to run again

If you turn the switch left to off, the lights turn/stay off, and the switch should spring back to auto. If it doesn't spring return to center, your switch is busted.

I have a '00 Yukon headlights are on all the time. Running lights have burned/cracked sockets and do not work. Light Switch does not have an Auto selection. 00-02 models are probably this way. Z71's and later models have many more options earlier models do not. Dome light override button pressed Four times should turn them off. (you will hear a chime) I read another say 3 times will do it. What ever the case just keep pressing the override button till you hear a chime or your finger gets tired.

Yeah, I think I'm going to have to do the modification from the thread linked above with the resistor.

I do the dome light button push as well. It works every time till I do a restart. No big deal to do it again if I want to. Gotta stay busy when you get old, after all.

I get tired of pressing that stupid thing four times. Its actually the dome light override next to the Selector. I think if I replace my running light sockets with new ones hopefully that will keep the Headlights from coming on during the daylight hours but maybe not. Headlights on during daylight ? maybe the sensor is bad. Great something else to fix.

And get this, those made for the Canadian market do not have the ability to turn off the headlights at all. We don't have the "push in" knob. I assume it is also controlled by the BCM, so I bet even if I got a "push in" knob with this feature, it still wouldn't work.
