View attachment 240367 View attachment 240366 I went from a 2004 Tahoe to a 2014 Expedition EL Limited. I needed space (to haul plywood) and did not like the sloped floor of the Suburban. I'm really happy with my Expedition and the ride is far superior to the Tahoe. I can haul (tow) something like 9500 pounds too.
My Tahoe was a great truck, but I'm sticking with the Expedition...but I do have the 5.4 V8...

I bought my "new to me" 2005 Yukon XL 4w4 SLT about 1 1/2 years ago, with 140,000 miles. It was garaged - maintained beautifully !! Fully optioned.

I read the dealer vin service history. It's as good as it gets!!

But... I want MY history on it. So, I am getting the tranny flush/filter next week.... Brake fluid - change / pads later.... So I know MY truck, like the last '88 GMC C2500 SLT, I shipped off to Germany , and it had 396,000 on it. ( New owner very happy)

Treat your luxury SUV like a "truck", service it, and it will last a long time.

Ah. . . I wouldn't do a Trany flush and fill ! I have a lot of friends who went that route, and it wasn't a good deal for them. Just drop the pan, new filter and refill. The flush can bring up a lot that now get into the valve body and lines and it just goes downhill from there. Stop yourself, if it ain't broke, don't fix it ! Please.

Opps... I meant a drain. Not a flush.

thanks everyone. Some great comments to think about. We do like our tahoe, but AFM, MRC, things like that have me concerned. I didn't want that stuff but my truck came with it as the wife wanted the premier model.

To me its not really about the cost of repairs, but more the inconvience of it having issues during a trip or whatever. I don't know much about the 3.5 EB, but those who have it on the other forums love it especially for towing. And we do plan to move up to a bigger boat with a dry weight of 4200lbs. So with gas/gear and tandem trailer come in about 6200-6400 lbs.

A black bear tune will resolve your AMF concerns. If thats not enough for your peace of mind, you can do an AFM delete kit, but with 36k miles, a disabler is probably good enough.

The same can be done for the MRC but I would use it until there's an issue.

My 17 Burb is my first new car and she is turning 40k soon. No extended warranty. I don't tow but I drive pretty hard. Its my 9 passenger Vette (sans supercharger) so I enjoy "spirited" driving and setting the cruise to 85 on the highway. Outside of self inflicted wounds, the only annoyance I have is the radio will shutdown on me occasionally for no known reason. Otherwise I'm very happy. Night and day difference between my 150k '08 Avalanche. I usually keep cars for 10 years. Hell, my dad's 2000 Ram 2500 that I had for 7 years is still going.

Personally, I think you will be fine.

I’m a little late to this conversation, but I have a 2013 Yukon XL Denali and a 2016 F-150 Supercrew with the 3.5L EcoBoost.

I think your worries about what might happen in the future are unfounded and can cost you a lot of money. I once heard that many people find their destiny on the road they take to avoid it. What I mean is, all vehicles have the potential to have issues and you can twist yourself into a knot worrying about it. If you take care of your vehicle, much more often than not, it will last a long time.

That being said, I also have no concerns with my F-150 with the 3.5L Twin Turbo EcoBoost. It pulls just fine and yes, the mileage goes to hell when doing so, but that kind of goes with the territory. A few years ago we moved my in-laws from central Iowa to eastern Iowa and my brother-in-law and I made many trips pulling trailers of stuff. Him in his 2004 Ram with a 5.7 Hemi and me in my F-150. We both got 8 mpg pulling similar trailers loaded. Our 2007 Yukon that we had at the time did a little better at 10mpg but it was pulling a smaller trailer as my wife wouldn’t pull anything to big.

I am at 68K on my F-150 and have had no issues yet, but I maintain it regularly and expect it to last a long time. Is there a chance that something major can go wrong? Yep! Just like they can with my 2013 Yukon. Just like it did with my 2007 where I had to replace the motor and transmission. I just don’t let it get to me and I make sure I keep up with the maintenance.
