Seem that the only ones with drain plugs are expensive billet ones?

Typically, the much thinner metal ones, like oe thickness, don't have enough thickness for enough threads to hold the seal of the drain plug tight and keep from leaking. Plus, the billet ones are stiffer and help with any flex from the housing when romping on the gas.

Good choice. Torque to proper spec, 30 to 35 foot lbs., and make sure all sealing surfaces are very clean and I like to use a very thin film of gasket sealer to help seal and hold gasket in place when installing. I would let dry about 1 hour before refilling but others here will say it is ok to refill right away. You can see the thickness on the bung where the drain plug threads in. It is aluminum so be careful not to over tighten the drain plug.

When I did mine- The spare tire was stuck- the safety on the winch wouldn't release, and I wasn't where my jack and jackstands were, so I couldn't lift the chassis up either. No big deal if everythings in working condition and you have the right tools, but damn if it wasn't a ***** compared to doing it on my old S10. The sticking winch is part of why I deleted the spare tire and winch assy.
