What’s the proper way to activate the remote start via the key fob? I can’t figure out if I’m just an idiot or if I need to maybe try re programming just the remote start part of the fob, because the lock/unlock buttons work great. I’m starting a new job on Monday which means leaving at 6:50 in the morning.

Just press the start button and hold it down until you hear the motor fire up. I have a habit of hitting the lock button first so the horn will chirp, making sure it's still in the driveway!

thank you! Will try it in the morning. If you have a check engine light will that disable it? Because of being catless, I do have P codes, but I have the CEL for those codes turned off...

Mine doesn't remote start with trouble codes present, like that pesky P0442 I get every 200+ miles.
mine will start with codes present even pending codes

i don't bother with it unless it's 110 outside and i want it COLD as hell in there. it gets to about 65F with in 5 min or so with the Industrial sized A/C

it's at 33F at the vents not too bad any colder and it will pouring out snow from the vents

You're lucky, even my '06 Pontiac would not remote start with codes present.

I was always told you press the lock button once and then hold the remote start button till it starts... mines aftermarket and still uses the factory fob... I just have to press the lock button 3 times...

I've never tried remote starting without pressing the lock button once first... may have to give that a try next time.

The truck will most definitely NOT start with an active CEL on. I have my downstream O2 sensors tuned out due to being catless as well... no CEL and remote start works fine.

Per the owners manual press the lock button and then hold remote start until park lights flash.

Remote start will not work if CEL/SES is on or hood is open. Mine occasionally pops the SES for 0430 and if the wife is driving and doesn't tell me to clear it remote start won't work.

+1 for pressing the lock button at least once then holding the start button until the lights flash. Even if it's already locked, you still have to press the lock button. If you press lock and wait too long before pressing start, like 10 seconds or so, you'll have to press lock again.

And, yeah, no remote start if SES light is on.

Thanks guys. Remote start works great! I guess there isn’t anything different about turning off the CEL for the cats and downstream o2s and ‘tuning them out’ because if I plug a scanner in I can see like 5 different codes and not have a CEL.

that or the remote start just looks for the CEL and if it’s on or off, and not actually checks if there’s codes set

I literally love this forum
I'd be concerned about why the bolts wouldn't tighten up. Are they too long? For the stripped hole, it should be an easy fix with the installation of a Heli-Coil: https://www.stanleyengineeredfastening.com/brands/optia/heli-coil

THIS!!!!! I literally love this forum! Just caught up on the last 15 or so pages. Tools, tips and feedback galore. If it weren't for you guys, I would not have the courage, knowledge nor skill to do some of the things I have done to my truck. Here, for example, is @iamdub, literally days later, coming up with something I had absolutely no idea existed. I appreciate that you guys have genuine concern for the group and the people in it... enough to be thinking about my problem, a guy you don't know personally, DAYS LATER. I was really, REALLY worried about the stripped threads in that hole. This has given me peace that I'm not going to have to have the engine removed to re tap that hole, or some other ungodly expensive procedure like a new engine block to get my truck back to 100%. To @iamdub , @kbuskill , @Fosscore , @Rocket Man , @Doubeleive , @89Suburban ,@lowh07 ,@gooffeyguy , and all the others - I want to send a personal THANK YOU to each of you. If I missed you, believe me, I appreciate you too!

the weirdness even goes further I have been able to accelerate in V4 mode.
basically it will stay in V4 mode from 0 mph I can accelerate to normal speed...

yes the tac was revving more like a 4 cylinder then a 8

and M4 permanently keeps v8 mode on and AFM is disabled..

your 2 mode hybrid prob has a way easier time staying in v4 mode which is kinda cool

normally you can't run v4 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ tell about 25-35mph or so or less then 30% engine load or 35% Enigne load once engaged)

but it did say v4 on the screen and had the AFM tone, no CEL or pending CEL though

i think the VLOM are damaged as well

since there is a faint rod knock and clacking ( audible on a cold start)

I am curious to hear your thoughts on the headers once you have it all buttoned up.

I forget... do you have a custom tune now or do you plan to get one??.
