Does it need a tank of premium higher octane ethanol gas. Or premium without ethanol ? Any pointers ? It really hits the RPMs hard at launch with 4:10s. Made some 2019 navigators get depressed at the stop lights one Volvo guy look at me like what hells going on. [emoji106] Just burned guy at the lights ..but the 235 85 16s do brake loose pretty easy need to be careful ..might have to shut down the stable track next time . [emoji106] Could the stable track cause issues at launch ?

if it has flex fuel then it will have the table for 93 octane

GM recommends premium fuel on all the v8 engines anyways..

just don't go to any gas station.. Mobil/Exxon or Chevron/Texco seem to have good quality control on which octanes go into which tanks.. I have gotten 87 octane from the high octane pumps before at 3 Shell stations (different stations),Arco/BP 4 different stations
they pumped 87 on the 91 selection/price

it happens a lot aka FUEL Octane FRAUD :whymewhyme:

i think chevron and Mobil have Quality control and spies on the franchise locations...

never had any issues I feel i get what i pay for at the pump..

As seen with my pretty HIGH MPG numbers.. snatched 26.7MPG Highway and 31MPG city last week ( 28.85mpg combined over 200 miles...)

this week it's going to be quite a bit less due to santa ana wind events i think it's going to be about 20-22 avg

with 87octane you only get 18mpg

I can sit in V4 mode almost forever with 91 octane. I think it would do even better with 93 octane as it could pull a (higher) tighter timing in AFM.

in V8 mode it can pull upto +42 degrees timing which is the max ?

I run the mid grade all the time and have no problems with mileage or pinging. I did with the low octane regular. I stick with Chevron for the same reasons mentioned here. More info/details needed on what you have. Flex fuel? Can you find fuel that does not have a mix of ethanol? Not in my area but my Chevron is half a block away. It is more $ but worth it to me for convenience.

How fresh are your tune/ignition related components? Good clean fuel filter? No check engine lights?

That taller tire should also help compensate for the 4:10s a bit. Have you tried premium yet and if so did the ping go away. Try the mid grade and see what happens.

Looked only 91 octane in our area need to shop lol. What about a can of octane boost ? The old 69 Camaro lived on octane boost .. it's 10 1/4 : 1 was a hybrid. Yukon XL might like it also . You can get it by case you know ... lol [emoji106]

How did you determine the wrong octane was being
pumped...or is this just your best guess?

OBD computer (way way less timing advancement ), suv refused to go in AFM shortly after pumping :( (negative advancement or 0 with AFM = No power )mileage dropped to the standard 18.5MPG amount.

my grandpa used to buy arco (I told him not to buy it)
91 octane boo that thing knocked like hell.

advancement with 91octane is plus +42 degrees.in V8 mode.
in V4 mode it's about +15 degrees.. i think with 93octane or 95 octane it can advance to +30 range while in v4 mode
this will give enough power to pretty much run the suv in v4 most of the time

this will give better fuel efficiency but at the expense of much higher fuel price

but it's too expensive (I can get unleaded 100 Octane but it's almost 10$ a gallon)
i'm not 10$ a gallon rich.. i can afford to get a tank full but not worth spending $250

I average 23mpg on 91octane (HIGHEST ever was 28.7MPG Combined over 200+ miles 40 miles city/160 miles hyw) last week

my last 225miles run was 24.7MPG combined
bad bad traffic

on 87 octane it would have cost me $5.675 per gallon at 25 miles driven
instead of the $4.399

on 87 octane it would have cost me $6.356 per gallon at 28 miles driven
instead of the $4.399

Yes you always WIN at the pump with 91 octane :) :)
$6.356 yes California prices..

that is if I keep it at a steady 41MPH it will stay in V4 mode = big numbers I think the max physically possible is 36 MPG with this v8 engine if I had a real nice flat grade no traffic lights etc...

the Max speed in AFM is 80mph(1800rpm w/3.08 ratio) the governor is 95MPH from what i heard ( they don't want you to be faster then the poilce tahoe. which is 137mph )
the TOP speed for hybird is 147mph but the 0-60 is unlocked 08-09 (my09-13 is governor locked to normal "5.3L" 0-60 Hoe speeds)

if you want a REAL launch on your hoe scoop out a early 08-09 6.0 hybrid Powertrain...

you can almost get the front wheels off the ground like in Fast in the furious...

tiny bit more torque would have done it..

I thought AFM you would get better mileage .. my old 2006 non AFM with 4:10 runs 18.5-20 MPG on 87 octane highway. About 15 mpg in the city it's hard not to launch at the lights [emoji57][emoji848]

Remember I'm flat lander also.

maybe if you had 4.8L the best i was able to get on my Silverado 1500..with 87 that was tail gating a 18wheeler though..

tailgating with the hyhoe actually decreases the mpg :doh2:

unless your in a Λ formation with it weird if you ask me
