Im guessing the sensor has oe range specs and it higher than that? Im at 112k now and will be doing the a new pump and chain when I do the water pump.

You didn't mention how many miles are on the truck/engine.

I always feel like if I'm that far into something (like already having the oil pan off to change the O-ring) it's cheap insurance to just replace the oil pump.

That's what I did... Mellings HV/HP oil pump, new O-ring, new LS2 timing chain and tensioner at the same time. I actually have "too much" oil pressure now... lol

That is correct... if it is too far above or below a set range it will set the CEL.

I ended up getting an oil pressure sensor pigtail extension and putting a resistor inline to lower the pressure reading to an acceptable level so the ECM doesn't set the CEL... it still reads the pressure it just lowers the reading proportionately across the range.

I hate not being able to remote start when there is a CEL.... first world problems, I know... lol

I thought it was 2 quarts to check???

FYI: Aluminum LS V8s use the Melling M365.

Probably. But someone mentioned a few months back about just pointing the nose downward to let the oil puddle in the front, up high around where the O-ring is. This makes so much more sense to me since it's quicker, easier, and you don't have to overfill the oil. I'd still do a quart in addition to the slope test to be sure, especially if I were somewhere with no decent slopes or ditches.

Ramps ftw.

I don't trust them damned things for anything other than a FWD. They always just get shoved forward, and often on one side or the other.

I'm sure backing a truck up on them would be easy, but I don't see that being enough of a slope.

I was thinking backing it up. That's what I did for my fuel pump swap. You may be right about it not being steep enough.

You and Chooch- always thinking about backin it up.

I knew that's what you meant. I was just speaking from emotion when I think of those damned things. I've rarely had good experiences with them. They do have their place, though. I bet anything other than the old school metal ones are actually pretty good. I made some out of a railroad cross tie I sliced diagonally. Worked great but were really heavy and emitted noxious fumes during the summer.

Ok so mine was the o-ring... Spent 8 hours sat changing a 4$ oring. Parking itnon a hill was ok but if I started driving and hit a light it set off the shut engine off B's. So I went and got the oring. Problem solved

Not sure... I am just guessing that anything with the melling oil pump and pickup tube would have this issue. When I removed the o-ring it was brittle and flat on the sides. So it was definitely worn out
