PlastiDip from hell removal

Sorry for post title I don't know how else to title it. I bought truck, former owner PlastiDip'ed it with rattle cans. It's WAY too thin, won't peal and wont come off with a pressure washer.

Right now I'm soaking a sponge in gas, then applying the gas to the side of the truck. I immediately afterwards apply liberal coating of simple green along with dish soap to rinse off the mess plastiDip leaves. Lastly I go over it with a clay bar.

This process is VERY tedious, additionally, I'm afraid of what it might do to my plastic trip. The guy literally Plasti dipped the mirrors, window trim, EVERYTHING.

Is there a better way to do this?

The pic below is the bumper I got MOST of the plasti Dip off of. Took better part of a day. The plastic trim on bottom still has plastidip on it though.

Check out dipyourcar dip release. It supposed to work for situations like this when it is applied too thin. They have some videos on there website also. Hope this helps.

Some trans fluid got on my front bumper and bubbled it right up. Came off super easy.

Have fun getting that off, I would try tony's idea just for kicks as there is nothing to lose, Some people pressure wash it off but that could be risky as you dont want to play with the clear coat and too much pressure. As mentioned above they do sell that product to soften it but I've got no idea how how effective it is.
I would throw new headlights and signals or polish and buff them and get a new bowtie to make it pop once you are done with everything mechanical. Its looking awesome and coming along though, My paint used to look dull and oxidized, now I can see my self in the paint when its clean, it takes a lot of effort to wash, wash, claybar,buff,polish, and wax such a big truck, Took me 2 days the first time I did it by hand. So I can imagine the fun you will have getting that pain in the butt plasti dip off.

You guys are awesome. Tony, I just so happen to have saved some tranny fluid from my last change. I'm going to test it out

I had seen that dipremoval stuff. Somebody else also mentioned Klean Strip Prep-All. I just happened to see the gasoline trick on youtube before I ordered either one. It's $2.70 a gallon versus $25 / gallon.

However, I may get myself some of it to see if it works better as this is a royal PITA.

if your still fighting with this i literally just finished my own plastidip hell. wd-40 and paper towels worked magic for mine. i recently bought a 2000 civic coupe for a work beater and some kid coated the rims. first rim i fought with for days with different products the internet claimed worked. found a post mentioning wd40 so i gave it a shot and the remaining residue wiped right off. the next 2 rims i peeled off what i could and sprayed and it wiped right off again. the last rim i said F it and doused the whole rim with wd40. trick there was after i wiped off the excess use a second dry paper towel and start wiping. came right off like elmers glue when you were a kid rubbing it off of your hands. 4 rims 45min

Honestly, spray more on. Get the coating up thick so you can peel it off

I will have to spray more on and try that as well as the wd 40... the gas fumes may kill me by the time i am done otherwise. But is cominh along

One side is partially done, other is still untouched.

WD40 is way to go no questions asked. My scenario definately required a pressure washer too. However required a couple more things...

1. I applied spray can WD40. Let sun bake it in for a couple minutes.

2. Hit with high pressure from pressure washer. Came off like butter.

3. I used dish soap and simple green solution with pressure washer.

I found if I waited longer than a couple minutes after applying wd40, then the plastidip wouldnt come off.

Also, it mostly came off. There is still a nasy residue to get off. (See pic some of that is damaged clearcoat too. Residue is shows up near flash pop, and is all ofver the truck.) Assuming I buff it with more WD40?

Next, the hood is impossible. Not even WD40 cwas making much of a dent
