06 GMC Yukon Denali

Greetings-I am trying to get some info on my 06 Yukon. Last year I had to go through about less than 2 feet of water on my way home as some of our roads were flooded. There were cars and other vehicles in front and behind me. Small cars.

My 06 Yukon stalled in less than 2 feet of water. A friend of mine behind me pulled my Yukon home. I had my mechanic look at it and the air filter on the side of the engine was full of water as the intake. My engine had to be replaced due to it taking in water. How? How could it take so much water in as small passenger cars were traveling down this same road?

Sorry to hear about that Derek. Was there a tube that ran from the air filter housing down into the fender? People/companies often add these tubes to get cold air into the engine without considering the situation you found yourself in. How about a big wave or did you go through the water fast enough to kick up a bow wave?

I agree, there must have been an aftermarket cold air intake that was unprotected from water entering from the fender well and you must have driven fast enough to shoot water up from the right front tire into it, or it had a tube running down into the fender well. Do you have any pictures of the intake?

To my knowledge there isn’t an aftermarket intake. The intake that was full of water was the center intake in the middle of the engine that connects to the air box. Where is the opening for the air box?

Or doesn’t the air box get air below the right front fender well

did it fail to crank when it stalled. like it would try to spin but cant?

if thats the case ^^^^ did you try to crank it 100 times? cause that would be very bad. that puts lots of stress on the rod bearings of the cylinders thats full of water. and causes them to fail. aka rod knock.

could have hydro locked it. aka sucked water in the tb.

you would need to drain the oil and fliter, pull the spark plugs out, then crank it a few times to clear the cylinders. dump a qt of oil in to flush through aka leave the drain bolt out, waste that qt of oil. then replace the filter and re fill the oil replace the plugs and crank it over and pray it dont knock.

if the oil that came out is full of water you might want to run it for 15 minutes, then change the oil and filter again. you dont want any water left inside. after the first oil change you'll see if you dealing with any left over moisture on the dip stick.

ive seen a few engines get sunk like this, if you act fast its all savable.

That’s the throttle body. The cold air intake is the air filter and intake tube. A lot of people remove the stock setup and install an aftermarket. Here’s an example.

kick in the ass right there. that blows, unless the shop cleared it out and it was knocking.

i had water over the hood of my 03 2500 hd, like water was over the door windows and washing up the windshield. stock air box, air filter got wet and some water made it in the intake pipe to the drop down part of the tube. damn truck just kept on moving, ass end floating to the side and all, lucky i went in to this mess in 4wd.

the cel did light up 100 foot after i came out the flood, once it dried off the cel went away. never read the codes either.

Insurance replaced the engine. I see people mudding on YouTube with the same truck and I’m trying to figure out what could have happened. I don’t want it to happen again if I’m confronted by a little mud and water.
