I'm going to pull the axle housing off the passenger side of my 2001 Z71 Tahoe (has All Time 4wd option). I am not sure which bearing to purchase to replace that. It's a little tricky to figure out for me at least.

I am looking for Timken bearing and seal. However, I'm not too excited about taking it apart to measure then order the part. I kind of want to get it done in one day :)

Thanks!

Is this the outer bearing for your output shaft?

Mine is a selectable 2wd/4x4/4wd auto.

Part numbers were
Bearing: TIMKEN SCH208

Seal: TIMKEN 710475

A quick check seems to indicate part numbers are the same for 4wd and awd.

On the exploded diagram, it's part numbers 21 and 22

It sure is :) It is parts 21 & 22 in your diagram. If you were my neighbor I'd come over and give you a 6 pack o beer right now. Many thanks :)

It's the exact same diff as yours, as has the AUTO 4x4. Honestly, I'm a bit sorted about pulling it and rebuilding the whole thing. I'm only scared of changing the pinion bearings as it seems to require some tools I don't have (such as inch pound gauge and larger torque wrench).

No, Florida it was a joke! But if you were nearby the offer stands! Those two torque wrenches are not that expensive. You can get Tekton's from Amazon Prime at a good price delivered in two days and they are of good quality.

Oh awesome i will look the tools up. This was the inch pound meter I was looking at... It's to make sure the crush bearing is set right on the pinion. They all seem to be $100+ which for a one time job makes me a bid sad lol

Curious i have built motors, even a couple racecar chassises way back when. However nothing ever like a diff or transmission. Is this say a level 7 of 10 mechanic possible job?

I am just super nervous of breaking new ground in my skillset :/

This is what I had in mind:

Well, I haven't rebuilt a front differential but I've done transmissions and the rears before. If you can rebuild a motor, you can rebuild a differential. Just get the right tools and the manual. There's an excellent tutorial right here on this forum that was done recently too with lots of photos.
